SISTER MARIE JOAN

ing the highest academic standards for those capable of achieving them, Sister's concern has been also, to make provision for the girls whose talents lie in other directions. Many programs have been instituted, with considerable success, to the satisfaction both of the girls concerned and of their parents.

Once or twice in a lifetime one may have the privilege of encountering a person who is very special. For us, at Catholic Ladies' College, Sister Marie Joan is such a special person. In fact, Catholic Ladies' College, Eltham. is Sister Marie Joan. Sister has been associated with the College for many years. She was a pupil and Head Prefect of C.L.C. She was a member of the staff from 1946 to 1955 and has been Principal during the years 1956 to 1961 and 1971 to 1977. Jn 1971 when the school moved to Eltham, Sister returned from Mount Carmel College, Hobart, to establish the new C.L.C. at Eltham. The difficulties she met were considerable. There was a beautiful new school in spacious grounds, but the buildings were incomplete, the landscaping had not been commenced and many facilities were lacking.

The girls were a heterogeneous group: there were some who had been at C.L.C. all their school davs, some who had been there for their secondary schooling, many who came in at all levels to take advantage of a Catholic education formerly unavailable to them in this area. Jt was not an easy task. but Sister moulded this new school into one which , while endeavouring to retain the best traditions of the past, accepted a new environment and changing life styles.

/sister's relationship with pupils, parents and staff has been exceptional. She has been the heart of the school for all these years. It was her wish that she know each student personally and well and , to achieve this, she has made a point of teaching some classes each year and these classes have been at all levels. She is always ready to make herself available to any girl who wishes to speak to her personally and to parents interested in or anxious about their daughter's progress. Staff arriving each morning always receive a warm greeting and come to feel they have in her a friend who will share with them, not only in their school interests, but in their private and family concer~ Above all, Sister Marie Joan is a woman of prayer and by word and example has fostered this attitude in all associated with her. Religious Education has a most important place in the educational program at C.L.C. Celebration of the Eucharist by: individual classes on a regular basis, daily Rosary for the welfare of Australia, for the school, for the children and their families, regular opportunities offered especially for senior girls of Retreats or days of reflection. all show Sister's concern for the spiritual development of those in her care.

Jn the seven years since 1971, the school has grown in enrolment, in facilities and in staffing. The immense load of organisation that, at first, Sister carried alone (in addition to her teaching load) has been able to be entrusted to many others; but, notwithstanding this, we still have the security of her authority when we need it.

In the wider community Sister has always been willing to co-operate in activities that are of benefit to others whether organized by the parish, by community groups or by individuals. Even though Sister Marie Joan is leaving the College we are confident that her interest in and love for the school will endure. We will certainly miss her. We wish her happiness and satisfaction in her new appointment.

The academic achievements of these years have been considerable, as has the performance in music, drama and sport. This is a tribute to Sister's ability to encourage both teachers and girls to give of their best in all aspects of school life. Yet, while maintain-

Later Susan co mpeted in a nd won two levels of the Junio r Cha mber of Co mmerce Public Speaking Co ntest. Fina lly we were a ll very pro ud of Susan's success in the Plai n English Speaking Competitions held by the Australian British Society in conjunction with the Education Department a nd the Queen's Silver Jubilee Celebrations' Co mmittee. Susan won the first three rounds including a trip Jntersta te fo r two with o ne week's accom modat io n fully paid. So o n October 21st Sr. Ma rie Joan, Mrs. Casey. Susan's parents, a nd a group of interested stud ents fro m Cat holic Ladies' Co llege spent a very tense morning at the Dallas Broo ks Ha ll supporting Susan in the Prelimina ry Finals fo r the trip to Engla nd in Plain Engli sh Showcase. We were a ll very proud of Susan but very disappointed for her when she was chosen as reserve spea ker a nd not as one of the four to com pete in the Finals. Father took this oppo rtune time to ma ke us a ware, and appreciative of Christ's suffering and death. The retreat too k the fo rm of solitary reflection, group discussio n and personal reso lutio ns to ma ke God an insepara ble part of o ur daily lives. We concluded with a joyous celebration of the Mass, a nd we left the chapel with a deeper understanding of both God and o urselves.

CHAPLAINS Many tha nks to the Cha plains who have looked after us so well this year- - F rs. J enkins, McCa nn, McCormack and Pascoe. They have made it possible for girls to have Mass severa l times a week in the schoo l chapel and the opportunity fo r the Rite of Reconciliation during each term . Congratula tions to Frs. Sometimes the attendance has been very good a nd so metimes we have been lucky to manage ten in attendance. Continuo us Rosaries were offered o n Our Lady's Birthday, 8t h September and 22

course of lectures and discussions on this important topic. We are very grateful for this opportunity which was much appreciated by all the F orm Y girls.

HUMAN SEXlfALITY AND FAMILY PLANNING Again this year Fr. Ralph Byrne and a group of ladies came to carry out a

EXCURSI ONS then we all climbed the Rock to the top. Day 7. We set out to visit the Olgas, 20 miles from the Rock . On return to the camp the bus broke down and Miss Taylor saved the day by supplying lemon cordial, paper plates and soap which somehow kept the bus going. Under threat of rain we broke camp and started for Alice Springs. We reached Alice Springs at 1 a .m. in pouring rain. The lucky girls with waterproof jackets had to put up the tents. Day 8. We spent the day organising our camp and washing our clothes. Day 9. Today we toured the town , seeing Anzac Hill, the John Flynn Memorial Church and the original telegraph station. Some of us visited the camel farm and climbed the McDonald Ranges to see the view of the town . On our last night of camping we held a concert, each group contributing an item . Day JO. In the morning we were able to walk into the town by ourselves. Our bags were packed and the tents taken down. We caught a 6.30 flight, stopped in Adelaide and landed at Tullamine at 12 p.m. Many thanks to the School and the Staff members- Mrs. Goodwin and Miss Taylorwho made the trip possible.

H.S.C.'s CENTRAL AUSTRALIAN TRIP Day 1. The trip began at 6.00 a.m. when 36 H.S.C. girls, Mrs. Goodwin and Miss Taylor arrived at school. Unfortunately the bus was an hour late. Our busdriver Brian. and cook Tom, couldn' t find the school. We squeezed our luggage in, said our goodbyes and started off. We passed through Ballarat and Ararat. Our first camp stop was Murray Bridge where we put up our tents in the dark. We divided into groups for cooking, erecting tents, washing up and cleaning out the bus. Day 2. We were dragged out of our sleeping bags at 5 a.m. We somehow got ready by 1.0 and were on the bus when it was found that the bus had a flat tyre. Once the tyre was changed and the bus repacked we crossed the S.A.-Yictorian border and headed for Adelaide. ln Adelaide we looked over the Festival Theatre and some of the city. We set off towards Port Augusta. Along the way we stopped in the thriving metropolis of Snowtown, population 10 or thereabouts, to rescue Brian's brother's bu~ which had broken down in the town. Camp two was at Port Augusta . Day 3. The land became very dry and barren as we travelled further inland . We stopped numerous times to rescue buses. We travelled for 22 hours and reached Coober Pedy at 3 a .m. We slept the night in a cave. Day 4. A sleep-in until 7.00. We then had a tour of the town, stopping · to look over an underground home and the "Opal Cave" where some of us bought opals. We reached Victory Downs (a cattle station) late that night and put up our tents in the dark. Days 5, 6, 7. We left early for the highlight of our trip, Ayers Rock. We arrived in time for lunch. We set up camp and spent the afternoon "recovering". After two days of continuous dust and dirt all we wanted was a shower. That night we held a sing-song round the campfire. The next day we had a short tour of some of the caves at the base of the rock and

Joanne Bey and Annette Steinfort FORM III TRIP TO ECHUCA ft was 7.00 a .m. Wednesday, 17th August and the day of our school camp to Echuca. The usually deserted Eltham station had been transformed into a noisy, crowded mass of girls as the sixty of us and the two teachers. Mrs. Dixon and Mrs. Hofman, stood waiting for our train . Then we were told our train had been cancelled so we had to wait for the next one. It was then we heard the news that Elvis Presley had died. We watched the teachers closely when we told them this, but neither seemed greatly upset and didn't even have watery eyes, much to our disappointment. Finally the train came along and we crammed into the already crowded carriage. 23

A fter a n ex tremely unco mfo rta ble jo urney to the city, we were met by a V.R. repre~e nta tive who hustled us to Flinders Street sta tion a nd fro m there we ca ught a tra in to Spencer Street station where the country tra in which had been delayed o n o ur acco unt was wa iting fo r us. We surged fo rwa rd , eager to find the best seats o n the tra in. Before we even had time to settle o urselves down, th e wa rning bell so und ed a nd we were on our way . The train trip to Echuca was 3{ ho urs long so we were very g lad to get out when we a rrived a t Echuca. We were ta ken to th e So uthern Cross Lodge (which was to be our acco mmod a tion fo r the night) by bus. We a rri ved a t the lod ge to find th at there was no lunch fo r us. ~So after findin g o ur roo ms, a nd receiving a lecture of d o's a nd don'ts (mainly do n'ts) fro m the owner, Mr. Perkin s, we set off to the Sa w Mill where we wa tched Red Gum trees being cut. A fte r tha t we invad ed the Milk Bar as we were just a bout d ying of sta rvation. Once o ur a ppetites were sati sfi ed we wa lked to the Po rt of Echuca where the tra nsportati on of the last century was being resto red. We were met by a bus a nd ta ken to a Da iry Fa rm where we watched th e pi gs being fed a nd the cows being milked . After sa mpling the fresh milk we vi sited a goa t fa rm . As it was getting la te, it was o nly a bri ef visit. We a rrived back at the lod ge to find a grim-faced Mr. Perkins wa iting fo r us - we were late. After a sati sfying mea l we wa lked to the G em C lub down the street a nd ad mired the co llection of sto nes a nd rocks. On our way back to the lodge, we d ro pped into the Milk Ba r fo r supper. We went back to the lodge to find there were a bo ut fi ve showers fo r a ll of us. A fter fi ghting over the showers a nd ha ving a pillow fight we were to ld to go to o ur roo ms, where we spent three-qua rters of the night la ughing, ta lking a nd eating. After a few ho urs sleep we got up, had brea kfast a nd set off fo r the Aqua rium . We loo ked at the a nima ls a nd saw a sna ke ha ndling d emonstratio n. We watched in d elight when the owner placed a sna ke around Mrs. Di xon's neck a nd we went wild with our ca meras as we too k sna pshots to capture the look of a nguish on Mrs. Di xon's face. Thi s incid ent was the highlight of the ca mp. We went to a Muse um a nd the Wa x Wo rk s which both proved to be very

in teresting. We returned fo r lunch to d isco ver th a t our pl a nned cruise down the Murray on a padd lestea mer had been ca ncelled , due to damage. So we dec id ed to go to the "op" shop where numerous a rticles were purchased . After that we went fo r a wa lk to N.S. W. a nd o n the ba nk s of th e Murray, where va rio us mishaps occurred beca use it was very slippery. We returned to the lodge, packed up o ur bags a nd Mr. Perk ins smiled fo r the fi rst time. T he trip back to Melbourne was ra ther ex ha usting. We fina lly arri ved back at th e E lth a m stati on a t 9.00 p.m., T hursday, August 18th , where we were met by o ur pa rents. Juli a Boeyen

SOCIAL AWARENESS ACTIVITIES CHURINGA 1977 During the third term last year, Form VJ attended a talk given by Sr. Maria Luke. Sr. Maria spoke on a voluntary activity that was to take place at "Churinga" in Greensborough during the summer holidays. This was to be in the form of a two week period where voluntary staff would take care of handicapped children. These children ranged from two to the age of sixteen. The idea of the two week program was to enable the families of these handicapped children to go on a normal relaxed holiday as most families can every year. The girls hoped to relieve the worry and constant care that these families constantly endure. Sr. Maria divided the period at Churinga into two weekly programs. She decided to take the young children the second week and the older ones the first. At the end of the talk, girls who wanted to take part in it put their names down . Addresses were taken and one girl was allotted to take individual care of one particular child . Interviews with the families of the children were arranged . The girls met the children in their own home surroundings, which enabled them to see how the family life involved each of the children, and how each child was cared for. Girls who wanted, could live in for the week. The work involved daily care of the children, which resulted in a very happy and warm atmosphere. The most memorable time was meal time, and it was not uncommon for more of the food to reach the floor than the tables. All who attended enjoyed this week, and many look forward to next year when they may do it again. Margaret Burke

proved to be an overwhelming success (with special thanks to Mr. Clark for his item , and to Mr. Haesler who portrayed his no rmal role as Senior Master). The Form J and 1J thoroughly enjoyed a chaotic and exciting games lunchtime. Another lunchtime activity was the Disco for Forms llf-Vf. We were striving for a total of $1000, but we nevertheless appreciated the students' efforts in contributing the grand total of $915. 40 HOUR FAMINE Originally we applied sceptically for 50 cards. a little wary of the response. But we were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response of the students and another 150 were ordered. With the knowledge that millions of people die of starvation each year, most girls came through the 40 hours (with no more than faint hunger pangs). The total amount returned to us was $1600, but if we included the amount that the girls sent in by themselves, the total would have been in excess of $2000. The Social Awareness Committee would like to thank all the girls who have helped during the year with the organization and by participation. A special thanks to Sr. Marie Joan and Sr. Felicia who backed us up in our projects during the year. We hope that by our work we have been able to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you . Cathy Caselin, Jenny Rath , Carolyn Scott, Joanne Lindley MEALS ON WHEELS As part of a Form V Religious Elective entitled "Christianity In Action", we participated in the Meals on Wheels division which services Eltham and the outlying districts. Our elective class of twelve girls, in groups of four , alternated each Monday during the second term. The groups divided into pairs and accompanied the drivers, visiting the elderly citizens and serving them with the three course meals supplied by the Austin Hospital. By being an active part of this type of social work, we learned to appreciate the difficulties, hardships and loneliness experienced by some members of our com-

MISSIONS 1977 has proved to be a very successful year for raising money for the underprivileged people of the world. The Social Awareness Committee with considerable help from the various sections of the school, especially the H.S.C. students (overworked and underpaid!) held a variety of functions. In July it was Form Ill's turn . They presented a contemporary dramatic musical called "Firewind". It was a presentation of the story of Pentecost and the choir wa s divided into groups, each of which represented a characterOur Lady: Sections of Rooms 8 and 9.

"THE KING AND I" This year the performance of the musical " The King and L" was indeed "a Royal Theatrical Performance" , outstanding from previous productions not only in its magnitude, its authenticity, its cast and its costumes. but also in the fact that on all four performances on the I0th, 12th, 15th and 17th of September the cast played to full houses with a need for several additional rows as well as the usual grandstand seats on the floor, in the "gallery" in front of Row A. Rehearsals for "The King and l" commenced early March, and from that time on Mrs. Casey and her small band of dedicated followers travelled far and wide in search of as much authenticity as possible. These trips included journeys as far as Bruck Mills in Wangaratta where Mrs. Corrie O ' Keefe was of great help in the selecting and obtaining of materials which Mi ss Eve Taylor, the dressmaking teacher, used in her generous task of designing and making the hundreds of eye-catching and colourful costumes, which added so much to the impact and beauty of the overall production. Also helping were the Art Teachers, Mrs. Wilkinson and Miss Holland , and art students of the College whose creative talents added the finishing touches to the many costumes and props. Tn preparation for the play several journeys to the city were required. On the whole we were lucky with -time planning, transport systems, and weather conditions. H owever, one of these journeys ended somewhat later than expected. The morning of the 9th of September started out a little wet but looked promising as Mrs. Casey and two members of the cast hurried to several centres for the purchase of additional make-up and costume pieces. Indeed there was even time to spare for a banquet dinner at Coles Cafeteria. On the return journey there was but one more stop before we'd all be home out of the teeming rain and cold . The stop was made but on returning to the car Mrs. Casey

found one extremely flat tyre. Thanks to the good ol' R.A.C.V. for thdr, not too speedy, but eventual arrival on the bedraggled group of one anxious and cold Producer and two jittering cast members. Other trips included visits to the Thai Co nsulate and other Thai business houses, including one trip to Brighton Squash Courts where members of the cast accompanied by Mrs. Casey made several attempts to master the graceful Thai movements and steps under the fascinated if not amused eyes of Mrs. Panita Hall, "our Princess Panita'', former Vice-President of the Australia-Thailand Association; cousin to the reigning King, and niece to a past Queen. Princess Panita was also a wonderful help with the authentic Thai translations used in the production. Another mentionable outing during the preparation of the musical was one to the Asian Trade Fair at the Exhibition Buildings in June, where Jackie Getson was fortunate enough to be taken backstage along with Mrs. Casey, Mr. and Mrs. Byrnes and Marita. Jackie was offered assista nce bv the National Dancing Troupe from Bangkok in achieving many of the ditlicult Thai movements. The magnificent props and stage effects were the result of the extensive work of Mr. Kevin Bvrnes and family. The one and only backdro.p used in the play, the magnificent ship deck and sea scene, was painted by Artist Luigi Raiola . who helped also with the make-up. Chris Byrnes, Mr Neylon and Monica Zorzi were responsible for the control of lights and sound effects during the performances. H.S.C. students, including Anne Smeaton. Cathy O'Shea. Angela Henne!, Mary Collins and Terri Hedges all had a hand in the make-up. Mrs. Buckley, along with Mr. and Mrs. Todaro and staff arranged the hundred or so heads into suitable Thai hairstyles and colouring. With the Thai hairstyles came one of the many minor 27

During the course of the sporting year we saw some magnificent performances from house members. I would like to thank Lisa Browne for her help in organization and her athletic ability, Jackie Frailey for athletics and Maureen Bourke and Giuliana Antolovich for all the work they put in as Middle and Junior House Captains respectively. Much of our success this year was due to a willing band of H .S.C. students including Joanne Lindley, Joanne Azzopardi , Anna Pezzi, Elisa Basile and many others. Without their help, life as a House Captain would have been very difficult. A special thank you must be given to Linda who did a great amount of work and without whom we could not have had such a good year. 1 would like to wish ?? the best of luck for next year and hope that the girls wo rk as hard for her as they did for me. SPORTS DAY

APRIL, 1977

week as members of the cast of "The King and I". The Form Ill team were close runners-up having played some very hard matches.

Congratulations to Megan, Linda and team. But the swimming season had not finished for C.L.C. Now came the task of choosing a team to represent the school in the Catholic Secondary Schools Association held at Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, 9th March. The team consisted of an ::i utstanding number of twenty-four girls, representing all areas of the school. In previous years the team had consisted of five girls, but this year with such a large team we were confident of doing well. The big night finally arrived , and a.,; this was the first competition many of the girl s had been in, they were naturally nervous. Nevertheless the team proved that it would would take more than a fit of nerves to prevent us from doing well. The team was supported by a large number of students and teachers who formed a strong cheer squad , and to our surprise we did better than anticipated . The senior team set many records which in forthcoming years should prove hard to break, thanks to our new swimmer Karyn Myers. The program ran smoothly thanks to the parents who helped with the judging and time-keeping, and particularly to Mrs. Goodwin, who not only organized the team but also the running of the competition. The fina '· scores were Siena 261, Genazzano 253, Catholic Ladies' College 239, followed by Killester, Santa Maria, St. Monica's and Academy. All members of the team had a most enjoyable night and were proud to represent their school. Patricia Busch

Debbie Tooth, Linda McNaught

Cathy Grant and Jacky Hanan both qualified for their C Grade Umpire's Badge on the day. The Tennis matches were held on Tuesday, 8th November, and provided some excellent competition at all levels. Our Form IV team played exceptionally well but were beaten into second place by Genazzano. The Form V level provided some first class stroking and excitingly close finishes to matches. The overall improvement in standard was the most pleasing result of the day. Although we did not win any individual trophies for tennis our consistently good performances in all three sports enabled us to score sufficient points to win the overall Shield . My thanks to all the girls for taking part and for trying so hard. J. Goodwin

INTER-SCHOOL SPORTS On Sunday, 18th September, Catholic Ladies' College took part in a Lightning Premiership at Genazzano against the Associated Catholic Secondary Schools. Only five schools took part this year. The girls played well in the Table Tennis, coming second in Form l , Form 111 and Form IV. Our Table Tennis Captain Linda McNaught and her partner Deborah Tooth, easily won the Forms V and VI cups for the second year in a row. It was a great effort. In the Netball our success varied considerably. We won the Form IV cup, defeating St. Monica's by one goal. It was a particularly valiant effort considering four members of the team had spent a very busy

ATHLETICS The School Athletic Sports took place on Wednesday, 6th April at Willinda Park, Montmorency. All competitors were cheered on by members of their own houses and many were encouraged by the presence of parents. It was great to see such interest. This year for the first time an invitation was extended to other Schools to compete in particular events. St. Columba's, St. 34

McDermott reached the semi-finals of I00 metres and the Senior 4 x 100 relay team was just beaten into fourth place. A squad also represented Catholic Ladies' College at St. Columba's Athletic Sports held at Olympic Park. Once again all girls performed well with the Open 4 x 100 relay team just being pipped at the line. Three girls reached the fina l of the 100 m. The standard of Athletics has improved nota bly thi s year as a result of more concentrated practice and wider interschoo l co mpetition.

Monica 's, Genazzano and Siena accepted the challenge to compete in 100 metres and 4 x 100 re lay in three sectio ns. ]t added a feeling of friendly competition between schoo ls, especially as each schoo l was successful in taking ho me a trophy. It is to be hoped that this type of co mpetiti on with other school s will beco me an annual event. Catholic Ladies' College also entered a ~quad in the Schoolgirls' Championships held at Aberfeldie Park. FATHERS' ASSOCIATION The year 1977 was one of continua11.:e of our activities from th e previous year. Rev. Fr. Brosnan, Pena l C haplain. was both the celebrant of the Mass a nd the guest spea ker at the Fathers' Annual Communio n Breakfast, the comment most heard from the participants was the sa tisfactio n gained fro m these gatherings. F urther work was und ertaken on bea utifica tion of the College grounds. A perma nent groundsman has now been opera ting for the past nine months and the results of hi s work and the efforts of the fathers ca n be readily seen. Native grasses are covering at least 70 % of the lower level adjacent to the creek 36

the forthcoming school year. The tree planting program was continued . Additional sections of treated pine fence were erected and many other remedial work s pertaining to the College grounds were undertaken . The raffle " Trip for Two" towards the latter part of the year was the only fund raising activity and the results were good considering the Non Response of many parents. The Family Basket Supper Dance was our last social function for the year. and this once again proved very successful. The fathers continued to be a back-up force to the College for all Social Functions, taking charge of car parking, assisting at the Student Dances. Dinner Dance, College Musical, etc. The year has proved to be a successful one, but we still have many projects yet to be commenced or completed and we invite all fathers to make themselves available and become active participants within this group and share the responsibilities of supporting the College. We extend our grateful thanks to the Sisters of Charitv, for the love, the care and guidance they d-evote to our daughters attending the College and to the parents and relatives of students for their loyal support throughout the year. K. Byrnes (President)

In May the mothers had a very enjoyable Luncheon and Fashion Parade at Mrs. DePellegrin's. There were theatre mornings at the Rotex theatre during the year and the main function was the Annual Dinner Dance on the first Friday in August. This was, as usual , a very successful evening and there was a very friendly atmosphere. In November the Christmas Luncheon was held at Albert Argenti's. This was a very pleasant final function for the year. During the year the Mothers' Auxiliary presented Sr. Marie Joan with $2500 to help with equipment for the school.

OLD COLLEGIANS' ASSOCIATION The President, Miss Maria Graham, and her committee have had a successful year. The first gathering for the year was the Reunion , which is always held on the Sunday after Easter Sunday. There was a very good crowd with representatives from many years present. Before and after Mass ex-students had an opportunity to look at the photographs on display in the foyer to celebrate the seventy-fifth year of C. L. C. A cheque for $1500 was given to Sr. Marie Joan. The main event for the year was the Deb. Ball which had to be held in the Royale Ballroom because of the large number of debs- fifty-four! Bishop Perkins came once again to receive the girls and it was a very happy night for all.

MOTHERS' AUXILIARY The first meeting for the year was on Tuesday, 15th February. After the meeting there was lunch in the hall at which new mothers had the opportunity to meet one another and also members of the Staff. Mrs. DePellegrin, our new President, and her committee planned a barbecue lunch for the girls on the first Tuesday of every month from March to November. These proved very successful. They were very well supported by the students, and mothers were very generous in volunteering for the roster. Mothers who could not be on the roster sent along cakes to be sold. As usual the mothers helped with the breakfast for the Fathers' Communion Breakfast in March. ln April Fr. Jenkins celebrated Mass at Mrs. DePellegrin's and there was morning coffee afterwards . A gift was presented to Mrs. Dunn in appreciation of her work as President of the Auxiliary for the previous two years .
