WEDNESDAY. FEBRUARY 25th The lucky Leavings spent 20 cents and a large part of their day watching a film "The L shaped Room". The Sport Group is getting quite frantic with the Swimming Sports only a few days away.

THURSDAY. FEBRUARY 26th More frantic arrangements for the swimming.

Today. Sister Maryanne was amazed at the mathemaabsolutely tical ability of the Geography class amazed!

FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 27th Student Co uncil meeting at lunchtime to discuss dance. We knew we could rely on Suzanne for great ideas. Short practice at Class Asse mbly time today of "The Gift of Peace" in preparation for tomorrow 's Mass.

SATURDAY. FEBRUARY 28th The Family Mass was a wonderful success. and a large number of parents and friends joined with the girls in asking God's blessing on the coming year.

MONDAY , MAR C H 2nd Today C.L.C. is buzzing with news . Reason ? The much awaited Scroll has finally made its debut. The enthusiastic reception was most encouraging (so was th e growing pile of money as th e Scrolls disappeared) .

Many copies were sold to th e girls, or should l say that many copies were so ld .

TUESDAY. MAR C H 3rd Last minute preparations for the swimming. Forms VI a nd V visited the Herald Art ex hibition .

WEDNESDAY . MAR C H 4th All that glorious preparation resulted today in a very successful swimming afternoon at the :Ivanhoe Baths. Co ngratulations to Aikenhead who won th e se nior. junior and hou se cups. and to Glenda Buckley of Marita who won th e open championship.

THURSDAY. MAR C H 5th We would like to say goodbye to Margaret Smith of Form I. whose family is moving to Darwin . Hope you will be happy there , Margaret.

FRIDAY. MAR C H 6th Today we learned that we would no longer be attending the First Friday Mass at the Cathedr al.

Instead it is hoped that we will be having class Masses. in which we can take a more active part.

A Student Co uncil meeting was held to discuss catering. invitations and decorations concerned with the sc hool dance.

W EDNESDAY , MAR C H 18th Every thing is centred on the Sports at the moment . us no doubt you have gathered. Alas for our hopes bf the inter-school cups. The senior team failed to fet past a slow jog up and down the grounds today .

THURSDAY, MARCH 19th No Sports practice today - torrent s of rain. Co ngratulations to the Sports Ca ptains on the inspiring speeches they made to their Houses today .

FRIDAY, MAR C H 20th · Our last marching practice. A sigh of relief from ¢veryone. including the judges.

SUNDAY, MARCH 22nd Rain for the past three days has made Flowerdale's Oval too soggy for us to run on, so the Sports were held on our own grounds. with the inter-school events postponed until the afternoon of Holy Thursday. These will be run at Olympic Park.

Despite the confined space. or perhaps because of it. the Sports went off very well, and all enjoyed themselves very much . Co ngratulations to Marita, who has done it again, and to Vincentia who won th e marching cup.

MONDAY , MAR C H 23rd The old quoits and skipping ropes took their toll not to mention the wreck that war cries today make of one's vocal chords - casualties of yesterday's Sports.

TUESDAY , MAR C H 24th Our own Scroll made newspaper history at C.LC. toady when the second edition came out within two months of the first. Leaving and Matrics went off to see a film " He who must die" at the Union Theatre, with the exception of the underprivileged( ?)

MONDAY. MAY 4th For many terrifying minutes today flood waters surged down the steps and around the blue pill a rs.

Fortunately. the waters soon ebbed, and the familiar green concrete was seen once more.

TUESDAY . MAY 5th T oday we cele brated Mass in the hall. Our purpose was twofold - to thank God for His bless ings thi s term . and to consecrate ourselves to Our Lady.

WEDN ES DAY , MAY 6th As th e re is no news for tod ay. the diary writer for thi s wee k has at last gained the opportunity to ex press he r supreme indignation at the tyrannical force of th e literary group who coerced her into writin g the diary for TWO wee ks instead o f the usual one.

THURSDAY. MAY 7th The las! d ay of term todav. We ' re fini shing a day ea rl y so th a t we shall be absent from the a rea of demonstration during the Vietnam Moratorium. J shall now retire into oblivion for two weeks.

THURSDAY. OCTOBER 8th The dates for the Music and Singing exams have come out today. Oh dear') Couldn't "they" reverse the dates? The singers were postponed and wanted it over as soon as possible, the pianists were given early dates, and have decided they need much more time . . . The other man's grass is always greener ...

FRIDAY. OCTOBER 9th After a long illness ''The Scroll" is just about over its convalescence. It should be hale and hearty with a double edition on Monday. Tennis is becoming even more prominent.

In fact, Mr. Guiney has some serious competition on Friday at lunchtime.

TUESDAY , OCTOBER 13th "The Scroll" is out again today. Record sales were noted - particularly in the Form I rooms. as per usual.

WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 14th At last the mystery of the crimson stain is solved!

Indeed the industrious Form ll 's presented their horrific "thriller" play to an audience of curious girls. The results - an outstanding theatrical achievement!

THURSDAY. OCTOBER 15th Great initiative is being exhibited by the junior forms which are "all out" to raise money for Eltham.

Everything from Spellathons to raffling cakes has been attempted. and. we might add , successfully.

FRIDAY. OCTOBER 16th Lucky science girls were let out for the afternoon - sports at St. Joseph 's. The school picnic will be held this week-end. Hopes are high for fine weather.

MONDAY. OCTOBER 26th Sister Rita made a promotion tour around the school . advertising a new scheme for the raising of funds for Eltham - this time a walkathon, no less.

TUESDAY. OCTOBER 27th Grand Final of the tennis. The winners of the doubles were Ann Reid and Karen Patterson. Actually they won a very hard fought battle against the mighty Matrics. The scores were 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 . The defeated Matrics. Diane Websdale and Mary Wise, went down but did it in a blaze of glory. A quote from Diane: ''They was jis' too good for us. thems were".

WEDNESDAY. OCTOBER 28th Forms I and II will hold their School Dance tonight. The hall looks absolutely superlative. The Form IV's certainly don't lack originality and creativeness in decorating the hall. They enjoyed doing it and were relieved when nothing fell down during the night. Any offers for the interior decorating at next year's Matric dance?

This brought many queries, for when we saw the divine baby photos and compared them with the present specimens we could not help but ask, in a somewhat doleful tone: " What happened?" One cannot help but praise the Form ll's for their initiative.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER ~h Jt seems strange resuming in the middle of the week. especially when it is the first day of summer uniform. For once the weather is not bad - in fact it's rather warm .

Yesterday's Cup Sweep organized by Forms YI and IV was won by Phil Schibeci. Second place was gained by Mary Fincham.

THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 5th The war for sponsors in the Walkathon on Sunday is on! A few "champs" have been elected in every class. and are being backed firmly with solid Jc bets. So far Geraldine in Form I has got the most sense - er. cents.

FRIDAY. NOVEMBER 6th The Matric Food Fete was held today downstairs in the hall. It was a great success we are pleased to say. We think it must have been because of the marathon Walkathon on Sunday. Naturally, everyone is stocking up on energy so that they can foot it to every check point.

SUNDAY. NOVEMBER 8th The Walkathon! While not occupied in panting and labouring up the numerous hills, we appreciated the picturesque scenery, combining fluffy grasscovered meadows . with new housing developments and older. more colonial-type buildings. However. it proved worthwhile when we finally saw the school on the horizon. The day was voted a great succes>.

Her interest in sport has won for her great support among «he Juniors. and to them . as well as to us. she is a wonderful sports leader.

MARITA NICKELS: Marita has a permanent front seat booked in the van to North. and we feel this is not only because she suffers from car sickness . She goes through insufferable ordeals in the library at North where she is a loner.

Her interests range from radiology to writing clever notes on her friends ' books.

KAREN PHILLIPS: The only schizophrenic of the Form. when the sun is high in the sky. her usually open and frank nature changes into that of a furtive. elusive butterfly. Karen likes dogs and cinzano. and once had an interest in Science, which has been swamped by an ever increasing enthusiasm for the Humanities.

ROSA QUARESIMA: Rosa contributes her wealth of fashion knowledge to the school. As well as having an interest in the Dolce Vita. she is an active member of the Literature group. It is very pleasant to listen to her read a piece of French prose. as her examiners will tell you .

HEATHER RAYMOND: "Grandma" adds tone to the class and gives us the wisdom of her years.

She has an infectious grin and an effervescent personality. and remains good-humoured despite the fact that she has already experienced the dreaded exams and knows about them - which we don't.

JANETTE TWOMEY: Janette disgraces the class with her untidy ways. It is worth telling Nettie something really funny just to hear that laugh.

Another budding Biological genius , Janette has worked hard all year. and has one of the most likeable dispositions in the class.

MARIA VAN VEENENDAAL: As leader of the Literary group. Maria showed he rself a dynamic and enthusiast ic force. Next year she will study at a Belgian finishing school. We hope that her French will not disguise her sense of humour. because this and he r wonderful disposition should totally disarm any aggressive forces in Europe .

DIANE WEBSDALE: Di has a certain affinity with canine companions. and is often heard enumerating their various attributes. This, however. does not interfere with her duties as President o f the Student Council. of which Diane has b~en a most admirable lead e r. Her vit a lity and sparkling wit p ~ rvade the classroom, and Di has proved utterly indispensable to the class.

ANNE WISE: Our wonder girl. Anne has proved herself the fastest card sharp in the north. Th e Don of our class. she has a photographic memory. especially for larg e Ducks.

MARY WISE: This "Hell's Cherub" lo ves alarm clocks and motor hikes. Contrary to popular belief. she is not a Fascist. Adolf being a term of endearment. You can see her on Saturday afternoons tc:iring at incredible speed around the c lothes line in he r backyard. We often remind her that if she is to be a nurse. s he can ' t terror;zc her victims o n a bik e.

COLETTE REEVES: May we present the Emancipist of Womanhood at C .L.C . Not only is s he a brilliant scientist. but practices her discus throwing every lunchtime from the Matric window. (Ah' The phantom card thrower has been revealed!) Her interest in swap cards often finds her sunning herself, counting her lot. She intends to become a doctor , and we wish her patients luck.

BARBARA SWEDE: Barbara is one of the quiet genii of the Form. She has a particularly active interest in her studies at St. Joseph's, which sh e pursues with much enthusiasm. Bab frequently receives many envious looks, due to the suntans she procures on her skiing trips.

SUSAN SCH I BECI: Popular. polite and extremely helpful. Sue is a most capable Treasurer. She is one of the handfu I of students who know enough to debate with Miss Nagainis on the finer intricacies of Biology . . . It was Miss Nagainis. wasn ' t it. Sue? DIANE TOWNSEND: Diane showed herself a capable organiser as one of the hardworking Sports group. She captained Aikenhead to victory at the school swimming sports - perhaps due to her contacts. These severed , she pursues other interests with greater enthusiasm. The joy of Sister Maryanne 's life. Diane's primary aim in Geography is to have an answer ready . .!

The Yo un g C hri sti a n Stu de nt s o rga niza tion began the year as one in which to ex pe riment with new a pproaches a nd co ncepts. Initi a ll y, we se t abo ut making radical changes to the format of groups.

Howeve r. we found it was necessa ry to modify th ese me thods.

Pe rh aps Y .C.S. took the spot light o n three different occasio ns this year. In th e seco nd week of sc hool. three inte rstate visitors ar rived for an informal dinner. followed by a very fruitful discussion night. These three young se min a ri a ns wro te afterwards in a pprec iation , thankin g C .L.C. for th e ni ght a nd commending it.

In Seco nd Term a n unusual drive took place in the form of a " Knitathon " . Each girl was asked to knit as ma ny five-inch squ a res as poss ibl e to be sew n into blankets for th e poor of Me lbo urne. We had a wonderful response. a nd. during Y .C.S. week . counted a tot a l of nea rly 1.500 sq uares. These were se wn into blankets a nd were duly distributed.

Y .C.S. week once aga in provided information fo r the school. A Y. C.S. concert . a treasure hunt a nd a stud en t/ teacher basketball m atch were th e light er notes. while th e activities were c lim axed by a G e nera l Mee tin g on th e Friday .

Three guest speakers. all with past experience in Y .C.S. spoke to the school on thi s occasion. They were Margare t McMahon . Bernadette McC udden and Margaret the Head Prefect of two years ago Gilbert. Each spoke of the effect their experiences in the Y. C.S. had had on their lives after leaving school.

Footnote. As this goes to press, the news comes to us that Margaret Maloney . Head Prefect. 1967 , has joined the permanent staff at Y. C.S. headquarters.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Although we have had to keep to a rigorou s academic schedule. we have. howeve r, engaged in many pleasureable social ac tivities. This year. the first major function we held. was the Senior Students' Co lle ge Dance on April 24th. Our guests were St. Joseph 's. C. B.C. St. Kilda. Marcellin, Parade. St. Bernard's and Whitefriars. All tastes were catered for in music. decor and refreshments. Everyo ne had an enjoyable evening and th e preceding traumatic weeks had been well worth it.

The nex t major function was the C .L.C. ball held at the Roya le Ballroom on May 26th . This year was th e first time the Matrics made their debut with the ex-students. All the debutantes looked beautiful. but we were especially proud of our classmates. lt was a wonderful ball and all enjoyed th emse lves thoroughl y.

Our next endeavour was to raise fund s for the Peru earthquake victims. We received tremendous support from the entire school , a nd eve ryone felt gratified that they had done so mething constructive to help.

The Social group then combined with th e Literature group to ha ve debating sessions with St. Joseph's.

These events mana ged to fulfil our ex pectations in both respec ts.

The Annual School Picnic took place at Mt. Evelyn on Sunday. 18th October. W e were blessed with a beautiful day which set just th e right atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment. The you nger girls had various games a nd competitions. while th e rest of us preferred to just enjoy the sunshine and country air.

SPORT The first major spo rting event for th e ye ar was the Swimming Sports. which were held at th e Ivanhoe Baths on the 4th March in ideal conditions.

Aikenhead won th e Junior and Se nior House C ups as well as th e School C up. The School C hampio n was Gleenda Buckley. a Form II pupil.

Practice for our own School Sports began immediately after the Swimming Sports. These were intended to be held at Flowerdale as th ey used to be many years ago. but rainy weather forced the cancellation of a ll inter-sc hool eve nts. The C. L. C. pupils held th e'r own events in the sc hool yard. and despite th e limited and difficult running area, most of those who altended th ought that thi s was a very a ppropriate place to have the Sports. since C. L. C. would. in fact. be moving fro m East Melbourne in the nex t year.

The Marching Trophy was won by Vincentia . the School Cup and Junior C up by Marit a. and the Senior C up by Aikenhead. The inter-school event s were held the follow:ng Thursday at an Olympic Park runnin g track .

Our lates t task is to raise funds for C. L. C. Eltham.

The girls are dev ising th e most ingeniou s plans We have had plays. a luncheon, films. etc.. plus innumerable raffles and swee ps. The result is most favourable in all respects. The girls are enjoyin g themselves and the funds are being raised. The lates t effort in this direction. the Wa lkathon, was a great success.

Our final social function s were the Matric luncheon. the Leavings' " afternoon tea" and the Matric farewell tea with th e staff. These functions were a mixture of pleasure and nostalgi a. as for many of us th ey were our last functions as C.L.C. students.

Not only did thi s team h ave great succ ess in their co mpetitions. but they a lso se t an exa mpl e for the rest o f the sc hool by their dedic a tion and school spirit. The Form IV te a m beat th e Form VI tea m during th e Lightning Pre miership. Th e Form ll 's coached by Miss Taffe pl ayed various other sc hools includin g St. John 's Eas t Melbourn e, St. John's C lifton Hill a nd Kilbred a.
