FRIDAY, 10th JUNE: C. B.C. Parade arrived in full force for the debates. Parade upheld its successes of last year. Our Matrics and ]nters were evidently not talking hard enough to prove their point. However, Leavings were able to prove their point conclusively(?).

MONDAY , 13th JUNE : The Science Room has received a s pring cleaning (even though it isn ' t spring) over the week-end. This morning no one can get in there to have a lesson - the rest of the school is in there admiring the glossy new coat of apple-green paint.

THURSDAY , 16th JUNE: Today is the Feast of Corpus Christi. It is interesting to note that the Intermediate Y.C.S. groups have been furthering Catholic Action by taking the Junior classes to Mass at lunch-time for the novena for this special feast. The girls concerned have the true Y .C .S. spirit.

FRIDAY , 17th JUNE : The Annual Alliance Francaise evening was held in the College Hall. It was very helpful and interesting, especially as we were performing a play, too. (Our "aspiring" actresses caused some worry when they were caught in a deluge of rain , but eventually all turned out well.)

FRIDAY, 24th JUNE: We had a holid ay toda y in honour of the Sacred H ea rt. Matrics had a debate with St. Pa trick 's. which re sulted in th e inevitable draw. The subject: " A woman's place is in the home" proved int e res ting a nd e nt e rt a inin g enough to be discussed even further during the dance and supper which followed.

The authorities concerned see med very impressed with her high IQ(?). and an appointment for an interview was duly made. Jn the course of the int e rview the question of age arose. as a pparently the girl concerned had stated her year of birth as 1960.

This year has proved to be e ven more successful for the C .Y.A. We are very proud of th e great progress the organisation has made. This progress is due , in no small manner, to the guidance a nd

enthusia sm of Reve re nd Father Mag ill a nd to him we te nde r our since re appreciation. Durin g the year Father vi sit ed C.L.C. with th e object o f giving us a deeper rea li sa tion of the C. Y .A. He outlined both the pri vil eges a tt ac hed to members hip a nd th e adva nt ages to be ga in ed . Hi s visit was a gre at success, res ulting in man y new members.

An outstanding fea ture of our C. Y.A . Sundays was a visit by Bi shop Tweedy. who gave us a n excellent talk . A number of priests a lso a tt ended our Sundays a nd to th e m we are indebted for ma ny inte res ting a nd beneficial ta lk s.

A number of social gatherings were held throughout the year a nd th ese gave u s a n opportunit y to mee t membe rs from various colleges.

Undoubt edl y the most o ut sta nding function was the Co mmunion Brea kfas t held a t th e Mye r Emporium following Mass a t St. Francis'. Again we were fortunate to hav e Bishop Tweedy with u s.

Our guest speaker, Jud ge Mulv a ny , ga ve u s a most enlightening addres s o n th e choosing of a vocation. A numbe r of TV personalities were prese nt and th ey provided us with exce ll e nt e nt ertainm e nt.

MATRICULATION CLASS NOTES MARY BROWN: Second year Matric. A prefec t.

Y.C.S. President. One of the few girls who have scientific mind s - does both C he mi stry and Physics. Very enthusiastic lea der of Marita. She cheered her team on to v ictory during the Sports.

BEVERLEY KOPKE: Attack wing, and winner of the cup for "best and fairest" in the "B" basketball team thi s year. Beverley is intere sted in all sports and hopes to do P.T. at th e University nex t year. She is an able lingui st and took part in the French play.

HELEN BUCKLEY: Helen is a member of the Record Group in the Y.C.S. She is a capable linguist. is a good debat e r and takes a keen interest in English Literature.

JAN LONG: Is one of the Prefects, Captain of Vincentia, Secretary of the C. Y.A. and a member of the tenni s, basketball and debating tea m s. She is always very e nthusiastic about eve rything she does, and at basketball she won " best and fairest" twice thi s year.

KATHLEEN CANTY: Head Prefect thi s year a nd Dux of the College. She is a keen stud e nt. but enjoys the lighter things of life, too.

Kathleen hope s to do a Science Course a t the University next year.

JUDITH CLARKE: Encouraging captain of "C ' basketball tea m. Always smiling and in a good mood . Judy think s French is a fascinating subject, but prefers Chemistry to any of her subjects. She recently got an honourabl e mention in the " Alli a nce" competitions.

PATRICIA COX: A member of Vfncentia and the Young Moderns' Group in the Y.C.S. She is very interested in sc ience and ha s a great love for animals. Jill's "stray" kitten received a great deal of attention from Pat . too .

CARMEL EVANS: A poetess on the first rung of the ladder. Th e "critics of exceptional prominence" have declared her ballad about her Matric. mates to be her ma sterpi ece . Carmel is a loyal member of Marita, and is a lways ready to lend any poor laggard h e r copious note s on so me obscure period of hi stor y.

LINDA FONG: From Malaya, is in her seco nd year at C . L. C. Badminton appears to be her favourite sport an d she hopes to further «his interest when she leaves sc hool. Linda lik es Australia, but she look s forward to re turning home. too.

MARY FONG: Linda's siste r, is a lso in her seco nd year at C.LC ., and is one of the keenest students in the class. We be li eve she is a n excellent cook. Mary hopes to go to the University next year.

MAUREEN GRIFFITH: Is one of the studiou s members of our class. She gained the prize for English Literature thi s year. She was a member of the debating team and took part in the French play at the Alliance Francaise soiree.

MARGARET POWER: Is Prefect of Aikenhead, and was ve ry proud of her team 's victory in the marching competition at the Sports. She is ve ry obliging, and when a sudden vacancy occ urred in th e debating team against St. Patrick 's, she cheerfully came to the rescue .

GAIL ROGERS: Enthusiastic Sports Prefect, and the effic ient sec retary of the Y.C.S. Gail is always very obliging, and is quite indispensab le when we need a "coke" during lunchhour.

DIANNE SWANSON: Is the enthusiastic Prefect of Loyola , a nd also the leader of an e nergetic Y .C .S. Record Group. Sometimes at lunch tim e she delight s her class mates with a lively ex hibiti o n of her dramatic talents.

MAREA TALBOT: Sports Prefect, Y.C.S. leader and a me mber of the debating, athletic, tennis tea m s. Marea 's ambition is to be a primary sc hool teacher, and hop es to begin at the T eac hers' College next year.

Father co nducted the badge-taking ceremony and spoke to those prese nt about the importan ce of Ca tholi c Ac tion in th e li fe of a student.

The school grounds were decked with green , gold , blue and red stream e rs, balloons a nd decorations. Every team had it s own "cry."' praising th e team a nd urging it on to success.
