Our Sustainability Practices
We design understanding that the built-environment and our shared, global community are inseparable. Every day, we commit to transparently sharing our process and progress with the goal of pushing the entire building industry toward a more sustainable future. As a fully integrated subsidiary of Clayco, our sustainability efforts have been captured in a Governance, Social and Environmental (GSE) Report found here.
Our practice stands strongly on five pillars of sustainability. This foundation ensures we always take the most holistic approach towards protecting and preserving our shared natural and cultural resources. The five facets of sustainability that anchor our work are:

Increase energy efficiency and decarbonization of energy, including embodied carbon.
Water & Ecology
Reduce potable water use and stormwater runoff in design and operations with attention paid to impacts on plant and animal species.

Manage materials entering and leaving our operations and reduce raw material resources in construction, while eliminating waste to landfill.

LJC is the design partner of Clayco, a large, turnkey building solutions provider. We work with clients independently, or in partnership, with Clayco and provide unparalleled service and crossdisciplinary knowledge.
The LJC delivery model is based upon a collaborative team. Developers, designers, builders, engineers, programmers, and clients work together transparently, sharing information and knowledge with the common commitment of exceeding expectations.

Adaptive reuse of the historic Marshall Field’s department store and current Macy’s flagship, transforming formerly vacant retail/storage floors into premier office space. The historic renovation included a lower-level building infrastructure renovation, a new office entry, a lobby with 14 completely new high-speed elevators, and an office build-out of the iconic structure’s highest seven floors, topped
and a rooftop terrace.
A new workplace with an interconnecting stair connecting amenities between two floors. The space features rich wood accents and special moments to display Commerce’s impressive artwork collection. Vast views of the Clayton skyline, park and building’s garden terrace are shared throughout the space.
A new headquarters that consolidates activities from offices across the country into one space. The design focuses on cross-platform collaboration and providing transparency in a warm, welcoming, and highly functional environment, allowing OFI to redefine its company culture.
