Place for Exchange
A place for exchange could be a place of shearing and shifting. A place where one idea transverses another idea and then continues on without leaving a lasting reaction in either idea. The moment of exchange is the primary reaction. The ideas sift through it reacting to each other in that place.
Place for Performance
A place that evolves the ideas that move through it. The territory through which concepts move and evolve into each other. For example the ideas of restriction and release move through this territory to become more of each other and less of themselves. It is a place of creation and destruction.
Place for Translation
A place where one idea maintains its integrity in another format or scale. A moment of translation is a moment where ideas move through to become more or less pronounced. This moment of translation rearranges the hierarchies within a context.
Site in Relation to Programs
The programs interact with the site. They are the catalyst in which ideas are developed. The site and the ideas are separated by a hypothetical divider that is conciliated by The programs. In order for the site to react with the ideas programs are necessary. The programs themselves can appear similar to the divider in that they have Curio and Scriptorium scales. They also intrude on the site.
The relief model studies catalog different paradoxical ideas along with overall themes of performance, translation, and exchange.
The ideas explored in the small relief models were developed further into larger relief models exploring the combinations of these ideas in more detail.

Astoria, Queens New York, New York
This project explores the connection between a printing house, a library and residences.
This project is located in Astoria, Queens, on 35th Avenue and 37th Street. Previously, this site was by Kaufmann Astoria Studios Movie Theatre. This project centers around a hybrid of a factory, library, and 60 two and four-bedroom apartments.
Overall, the ethos of this project responds to the concept of an urban factory combined with community services and affordable housing.
The project began with a site derive. The people catalog, collage instrument, collages, and worker’s rest space, document the happenings and encounters around the vicinity of the site.
