Center Stage at the Historic Alhambra Theatre

By: The Pennyroyal Arts Council

With a marquee that first brightened Hopkinsville’s Main Street in May of 1928 and following a grand renovation in 2018, the historic Alhambra Theatre now shines brighter than ever before. Step foot in the historic Alhambra

Theatre and the spirit of the 1920’s instantly greets you. The home to concerts, performing arts and theatrical events is the gem of downtown Hopkinsville. The historic theatre now offers upgrades at every turn, including plush seating for its guests, a new stage for its performers, and performances are now powered by the latest technology - a necessity for the performances the Alhambra Theatre’s patrons enjoy today. Throughout the renovation, care was taken to spare and even highlight original architectural details. Once covered, the original archway entry is now exposed and greets you upon entering the theatre. The original tiles flank the main level entry to the theatre. The Pennyroyal Arts Council oversaw a years-long renovation of the theatre with its own Executive Director Margaret Prim personally choosing Art Deco finishes and fixtures to celebrate the era of the theatre’s inception.

Possibly the most stunning new feature of the Alhambra Theatre is The Hall at the Alhambra Theatre, a brand new event space overlooking the theatre performance space as well as Main Street. With room to host approximately 80, the new space is utilized for meetings, events and is a favorite among patrons during performances.

Located just an hour from downtown Nashville, the Alhambra Theatre regularly welcomes Grammy award-winning artists and world-renowned performance groups to its stage. The 2019-2020 performances and LIVE at the Alhambra Theatre series are no exception.

Kicking off October 3, twelve-time Grammy award-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans will perform on the Alhambra Theatre stage. Alongside her, Hopkinsville’s Virginia Street Baptist Church choir will join her as she performs hits that have led to her being named the best-selling female gospel artist of all time.

Taking the stage November 15, Maureen McGovern, a superstar whose career spans Broadway, Grammy nominated and the Oscar-winning hit song, “The Morning After” will lead patrons on a nostalgic musical journey with her wide vocal range and intimate reinvention of classics from the Great American Songbook, American Pops, film, theatre, jazz and inspirational music.

Coming December 15, is the Annie Moses Band, a genredefying ensemble of six siblings of instrumentalists and vocalists. The Annie Moses Band fuses American roots with folk rock and jazz in stunning performances that feature strings, keyboards, guitar, and rhythm. Accolades include 1200+ hours on PBS, fifteen albums, sold out debuts at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry and travels across the United States, Europe, and even North Korea.

Much to your Valentine’s Day delight, Travis LeDoyt will entertain on February 14. Travis LeDoyt is known as “The World’s Best” at portraying young Elvis Presley in his prime in the ‘50s and ‘60s. His uncanny resemblance to the “King of Rock and Roll” has audiences gasping when he takes the stage.

One of the most successful soul groups of all time, The Stylistics will perform the April 18 LIVE at the Alhambra Theatre show. With 12 straight Top Ten hits in the early ‘70s, The Stylistics celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2020.

Individual tickets to the LIVE at the Alhambra Series are $45 for adults, $25 for active duty military, and $15 for students. Visit pennyroyalarts.org to learn more about season tickets, purchase individual tickets or to learn more about the events at the Alhambra Theatre.
