S W E N & i n S E T m NO alu NEWS Pat (Strouhal) Busalacchi '58 Milwaukee, WI Pat's husband, Tony, turned 85 in January and they wanted to mark the occasion in some way. They read about the conversion of the old St. Anthony's Hospital, where Tony was born, into low-cost housing. They contacted the Capuchins (an order of brothers who live according to the Rule of St. Francis in the tradition of the Capuchin Reform), and the project took off. Originally they hoped to raise $2,000-$3,000. Between the sales and donations, the total to date is almost $21,000! Kathy (Loch) Klein '73 Asbury, IA Earlier this year, friends from the class of '73 Dawn (Courtney) McCormick, Kathy (Loch) Klein, Liz (Leicht) Raschke, and Karen (Smith) Weber

took a trip to New York City for a Road Scholar tour that focused on Broadway. They saw two shows that won multiple Tony Awards: Three Tall Women and The Band's Visit.

They also met producers, directors, and actors, and toured the New Amsterdam Theater.

Mary Beth Growney Selene '77 Madison, WI Mary Beth, Founder and President of Ryan Signs, Inc., was among 17 women selected for a 2018 Wisconsin Governor's Trailblazer Award for Women in Business. Mary Beth was recognized in the Business Pioneer Award category, honoring companies that have been majority womanowned for the past 25-years or more – highlighting the rich legacy and economic impact of women's business ownership in Wisconsin's economy.

Ann Sweeney '77 Olympia, WA Ann was recently honored by Washington State Governor Jay Inslee for outstanding leadership. Ann is a Special Assistant to the Director's Office at the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services.

She was among 20 managers from a variety of state agencies honored with the prestigious 2018 Governor's Award for Leadership in Management.

Ann (Weber) Kauffman '80 Omaha, NE Ann retired after 38 years of teaching French and Spanish. She is looking forward to traveling, volunteering, and spending time with friends, family, and her soon-to-be first grandchild.

Carole (Bartels) Loetscher '80 Dubuque, IA Carol published a book last October called "Wood," which is about "a little piece of Iowa" in Dubuque. The Farley & Loetscher Manufacturing Company is the heart of the epic story.

The company employed hundreds of people during its 90-year history who proudly created and produced quality products that were marketed worldwide. For those who are interested in "Wood" and the millwork milieu it is available at River Lights Bookstore, www.riverlights.com.

Chris Kolker '94 Centennial, CO Chris won the Democratic nomination for the Colorado State House District 38 and will be running in the general election in November 2018.

Matthew Zelle '01 New York, NY Matt, executive vice president of Park Avenue Artists, brought award-winning violinist Joshua Bell to the Quad-Cities in May to perform with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. For more than 13 years, Matt has represented Mr. Bell, 50, who performs on a 1713 Huberman Stradivarius. On May 3, Mr. Bell performed a solo in the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 and met patrons in a Champagne Afterglow at the RiverCenter in Davenport. Matt said Mr. Bell plays 230 dates per year and currently is arranging concerts for 2021.

Tammy (Hutson) Norcross-Reitzler '85 Davenport, IA Tammy received certification as a spiritual director from the Benedictine Peace Center of the Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton, SD after completing the two-year Spiritual Direction Ministry Formation Program.

Tim Heller '86 Houston, TX Tim, ABC13's chief meteorologist, will retire from his career as a broadcast meteorologist. His last day on-air will be Friday, January 11, 2019. Tim's coverage of weather over the past three decades has earned him several awards, including four Emmy Awards. He has also received multiple Best Weathercast awards from the Houston Press Club, the Dallas Press Club, and the Texas Associated Press.

Before moving to Houston, Tim led the weather department at KDFW-TV in Dallas. He also worked at KGANTV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, KRCG-TV in Jefferson City, Missouri, KDUB-TV in Dubuque, Iowa, and WIFR-TV in Rockford, Illinois.

Sarah Hayes '08 Cedar Rapids, IA Sarah Hayes, an English Teacher and Drama Director at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, received KCRG's "A+ for Education" award.

This award recognizes excellence in education and goes to a teacher or coach who goes the extra mile for his/ her students. Recipients are honored with a plaque and $250 for their dedication. Sarah was nominated by a student.

Caitlin Hammond '09 Glenview, IL Caitlin is a 2009 graduate of Clarke College, with dual degrees in Spanish and Psychology. She was also a college athlete playing soccer in 70 games over four seasons, and was a 2-time MCC Academic All American and voted most improved player during her second year. During her time at Clarke she also spent a semester abroad studying at the St. Louis University Madrid Campus in Spain. She lived in Spain for six years and in Bucharest, Romania, for another one-and-a-half years. During her time in Madrid, she taught English to grade school students for several years. She also worked for a Spanish Railway company as a translator and recently has worked as an English teacher, teaching English over the internet to students in China.

She and her fiance, Pepe Munoz Bello, currently reside in Cambridge, England and are engaged to be married this year on the beach in La Manga, Spain, with family and friends from Spain and the USA in attendance. They plan to honeymoon in Rome. During the years since Caitlin graduated from Clarke she decided that she wanted to visit 30 countries by the time she was 30.

She celebrated her 30th birthday last May and has surpassed that goal and has currently visited 36 countries, riding a camel in Morocco, seeing the pyramids in Egypt, and visiting the Parthenon in Greece. She has dined in the Eiffel Tower, seen the northern lights in Tromso, Norway, and climbed Machu Picchu in Peru.

Shirley (Templeton) Vaughn '11, '15M Dubuque, IA Shirley presented at the monthly Young Professionals' Luncheon in Dubuque. Her presentation was titled, "The Future of Your Future: The New Requirements of Leadership Hard Skill, Soft Skills, and Mindset."

Sarah Wolter '11 Dubuque, IA Sarah and students at Fulton Elementary School in Dubuque shared with 250 guests how they have benefited from a classroom yoga pilot program during the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools' sixth annual Enhancing Excellence Luncheon. Fulton is one of four schools in which the district is implementing its yoga program.

Matt DePauw '17 South Beloit, IL Matthew was hired at Central Michigan University as an Assistant Coach for the Women's Volleyball team.

Krissy (Steffen) Wieland '15 Independence, IA Krissy joined Covenant Clinic in Independence, IA, as a primary care provider. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids in 2010 and completed a nurse residency program at Mercy Medical Center. She was then employed as a registered nurse at Regional Medical Center in Manchester. During that time, she earned a doctorate of nursing practice in 2015 from Clarke.

She has been employed at Covenant Clinic Franklin Street in downtown Waterloo since 2017.

Carrie (Chance) Allen '06 Urbana, IL Carrie earned her Ph.D. in Educational Organization and Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2018.
