Welcome to Claremont Choosing the school in which your child will grow, develop and learn is one of the most significant steps any parent takes. We are proud of Claremont’s strong reputation for being a compassionate, child-centred school of choice for families seeking an academically ambitious environment that educates the whole child. Set in 100 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds, Claremont is known for focusing on the academic potential of our pupils, but not at the expense of their wellbeing; for a culture that nurtures pupils’ limitless potential, not just in exams but also in equipping them with the skills to shape the world around them at university, in their careers and in the wider society beyond.
We prioritise, too, an understanding of character and the way in which our relationship with others is fundamental to our successes in life, university and careers. We warmly invite you to explore our school, meet our pupils and teachers and discover why Claremont could be the perfect fit for your child’s educational journey.
Whilst the vast majority of our pupils head to Russell Group universities, we actively encourage every pupil to pursue their own goals and passions, be that creative endeavours, the performing arts or apprenticeship opportunities.

Introducing Claremont We want our pupils to be ambitious in their goals, to challenge themselves, to have a go at new things and to achieve – both inside and outside the classroom. Pastoral care, alongside our high academic reputation and broad co-curricular programme, is central to our impressive school where each child is valued, encouraged, challenged and supported to unleash their potential.
Our school community is well known for its tight-knit, warm and inclusive feel. Our students leave us, not only having achieved excellent academic outcomes, but also having established life-long friendships and an enduring connection with Claremont.
Our vision
Our ethos
In accordance with our mission, Claremont develops individuals who are outstanding citizens, aware of their responsibility to others and contribute positively to global society.
Goodness underpins this school. Teachers, staff, pupils and their families are expected to support and extend the atmosphere of respect, courtesy, the love of learning and the value of friendship that is held dear at Claremont. This peaceful and purposeful intent extends throughout every lesson and into the pastoral and co-curricular activities we offer.
We realise this by being a high-quality school of choice where young people achieve more than they think is possible.
Young people leave Claremont as confident, contributing and caring members of the global community. They cherish the values that equip them to make a positive contribution and be a force for good in the world.

Admissions FAQs
Full details will be shared alongside the offer.
Discover Claremont Senior School 2026–27
A . Please refer to the key dates opposite. We would recommend applying once the end of Year 5 school report is available, as you will need this for your application. The application deadline for 2027 entry is 3 November 2026, but we would recommend applying in good time before this, to ensure that interviews can be arranged in good time ahead of the assessment day on 28 November 2026.
Q
How selective is Claremont?
A . Whilst we remain a gently selective school, we do advise that applicants in Year 6 will need to be comfortably meeting national expectations in English and maths in order to keep up with the pace of our curriculum in the senior school. The Head will take all information into account in considering applications, including school reports and references (where schools provide these) and our admissions process is designed to identify those pupils who will thrive here at Claremont.
claremont.net
Q
How big are class sizes?
A . Our main entry point into senior school is in Year 7, where we typically have 60–70 new joiners each year. We also expect most of our pupils from our junior school to join, making up a Year 7 of typically around 126 pupils per year. In Year 7 pupils will sit in classes of 21 pupils for most lessons, with 6 teaching classes across the year group. For maths, we teach in 7 classes of 18 pupils.
Q
What papers will my child sit on the assessment day?
A . All the assessments are designed to reveal the potential of the individual candidate and are age-appropriate assessments. There is no need for excessive revision or to engage tutors in the lead up to the assessments as we would rather have a true reflection of a candidate’s attainment. We use GL Assessment for the majority of our papers and candidates will sit papers in verbal skills and non-verbal reasoning and maths. There will also be a short creative writing exercise for candidates to showcase their writing skills. All papers, except the creative writing, are multiple choice and all papers are handwritten. GL provide free familiarisation materials for parents on their website: www.gl-assessment.co.uk, including a parents’ guide for each test, so please do take a look at these.

Q
Q
Q
Q
A . At Claremont, we value depth of character alongside academic attainment and all candidates are invited for a short interview, at which they will be able to discuss their interests and allow us to get to know them a little better.
A . We do understand that there are, on rare occasions, unavoidable circumstances preventing attendance. If you are aware in advance of there being a reason why you will be unable to attend on the assessment day, please contact our admissions team as soon as possible following application, and before the application deadline, to discuss. We will be arranging a holdover assessment afternoon on Wednesday 2 December, although it is held during a normal school day and as such spaces are limited and offered on a first come first served basis. We will not be holding any further assessments after this date.
A . We can arrange reasonable adjustments such as a laptop or additional time for eligible candidates. These are considered in line with JCQ requirements and therefore please note that we do not provide a scribe or human reader for exams, although candidates are welcome to bring a reading pen with them or we can provide an immersive reader.
A . Offers are typically sent out towards the end of January, with offers for September 2027 being issued by 1 February 2027.
What happens at interview?
Candidates will be invited in on a first come, first served basis during the autumn term, with most interviews taking place on selected weekdays in October and November.
Q
Will my child be disadvantaged by coming in for interview so early?
A . We want your child to be themselves at interview, and do not need the children being overly coached for this. It is not a test, we are not trying to catch them out, and we love hearing what they have to say! In fact, feedback has shown that in coming in for interview in the autumn term, ahead of the assessment day, helps calm candidates’ nerves on the assessment day itself as they return to a familiar environment and are welcomed by recognisable staff they have met before.
6
Claremont
What if my child can’t make the assessment day?
Q
I’m worried my child will be too nervous on the day?
A . Please do not worry. Those involved in the interviews and assessment day are carefully chosen and they are friendly, experienced staff who are adept at getting even the quietest child to open up and chat. We know this is a new experience and can be nerve-wracking. We want the children to feel comfortable and do well and so we work hard to ensure that both the interview and assessment days are kept as welcoming, friendly and relaxed as possible – with lots of snacks available!

How do I apply for access arrangements?
All requests will need to be supported by appropriate evidence as follows: • A report from an educational psychologist, specialist assessor or equivalent medical practitioner (produced within two years of the entrance exam) • Confirmation from their current school to the admissions office via our normal way of working form that the arrangements requested are the candidate’s normal way of working. This form is emailed directly to their school following application. To ensure that there is sufficient time for requests to be reviewed and current schools to report on arrangements and support, it is essential that applications are made in good time ahead of the application deadline. Requests or supporting documents submitted after the application deadline may not be considered ahead of the academic assessment.
claremont.net
When are offers made?
All children who receive offers are invited back to an offer holder event, to be held on 6 February 2027, which gives them a chance to get an important insight into what life is like at Claremont and have fun whilst parents have the opportunity to spend time with some of our leadership team and find out more information about the school.
Q
How will my child settle in if they are new to Claremont in Year 7?
A . Starting Year 7 is a fresh beginning for every pupil at Claremont. Whether joining us for the first time or moving up from our junior school, all pupils step into senior school together, forming new friendships and finding their place. We carefully support this transition from the outset. All pupils joining senior school after the summer holiday are invited to a Move Up Afternoon in June, giving them the chance to meet one another and begin building friendships, followed by an induction day before the start of term in September. As they settle in, pupils join their new houses, explore new subjects and experiences, and quickly grow in confidence as part of the Claremont community together.

Our academic approach
Cultivating essential skills The curriculum and our teaching and learning are specifically designed to not just prepare pupils for successful examination results, but to prepare them to be successful professionals and global citizens. We achieve this through offering a real diversity and breadth of subjects on offer, building a curriculum as much as possible around the strengths and interests of the individual learner, whilst ensuring that all pupils have a strong core foundation of skills and understanding.
We focus on cultivating essential skills that foster effective and independent learning, such as metacognition (the ability to self-evaluate) and problem-solving. These skills are embedded in our teaching, delivered through engaging and challenging tasks, content, and concepts. Claremont’s three-year GCSE programme gives pupils the time to go further. They build deeper understanding, explore enrichment and develop creativity and personal skills alongside strong academic foundations. With more space to be challenged, pupils gain knowledge and confidence that go well beyond GCSE, creating a powerful platform for A level success. The impact is clear. Claremont pupils achieve almost a full grade higher per GCSE subject than national expectations based on their starting points, equivalent to eight to nine grades across their results. This places Claremont among the UK’s leading performers for academic progress. And in 2026, Claremont celebrated its strongest ever A level results, setting a new benchmark for academic excellence.

School development plans
Looking to the future We are finalising a visionary masterplan for the coming decades which will ensure our facilities provide pupils with the most enriching learning experience possible in an inspirational setting. In the meantime, we have ensured our resources have been carefully apportioned to initiatives that benefit the whole school community immediately, including:
Joyce Grenfell Theatre upgrade Refurbishment of the Joyce Grenfell theatre began last year with the installation of state-ofthe-art stage lighting and sound. The next exciting phase of the project, later this year, will bring further lighting upgrades, new rigging, and professional pull-out seating to increase audience capacity and comfort. These developments will create a theatre space that matches the quality, ambition, and professionalism of our pupils’ productions, from Nursery to Sixth Form, with comfortable theatre seating for a truly professional theatre experience.
Co-curricular programme evolutions From 2026, our senior school co‑curricular programme will be significantly refreshed and expanded. Shaped by our pupils’ ambition for deeper academic exploration and CV‑building opportunities, it will introduce a wider range of clubs that extend classroom learning in exciting ways, alongside nationally recognised, UCAS application enriching activities and competitions. This will sit alongside our much‑loved sport and creative provision, where music, drama, art and design clubs continue to spark imagination, with increased before‑ and after‑school opportunities beyond sport and continued involvement in highly respected initiatives such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Upgrading sports facilities We have recently added a two-court AstroTurf all‑weather facility and are actively exploring further all‑weather sports provision, with an indoor swimming pool identified as a key future priority.
