Looking ahead, Together From our Executive Director and Board President
As we reflect on the year just completed, we are deeply grateful for the resilience of our community during a challenging time for survivors of sexual violence. This year reaffirmed what has always defined Solace: a steady commitment to survivors and a shared belief in healing, dignity, and justice. Our supporters and partners played a vital role in sustaining that commitment. Your generosity, participation, and advocacy helped sustain access to critical services for survivors during an unexpected period of financial uncertainty. Through community-driven initiatives such as Dining Out for Solace, donor-led fundraisers, and partner collaborations, we strengthened connections and advanced our mission. Sexual violence has reached epidemic proportions in New Mexico, including a 17.74% increase in Santa Fe in 2025. Yet hope persists: for 53 years, Solace has remained the only organization in our region solely dedicated to providing trauma-informed services and prevention education in middle schools to survivors and their loved ones, in English and Spanish at no cost to the client. Healing does not happen in isolation. Solace supports non-offending caregivers and survivor support systems and works in close collaboration with the Santa Fe Police Department’s Special Victims Unit and Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners—trusted partners co-located with Solace in a dignifying, survivor-centered space. Looking ahead, we continue to invest in coordinated, community-wide solutions and will convene a multidisciplinary summit with justice and healthcare partners in fall 2026. Your belief in Solace makes this work possible—and makes a lasting difference in the lives of survivors. Thank you for standing with us.

Where Healing Begins: Our Stories Advocacy, Forensic Interviewing, Therapy, Education & Prevention Dana Longenette, MSW, Child Advocacy Center & Sexual Assault Services Manager (CAC/SAS) A non-English–speaking mother of five sought help from CAC/SAS after discovering that one of her children had been sexually abused by a family member. As the family navigated fear and instability, she later learned that another child had also been harmed by the same person. Cynthia, a Solace bilingual advocate, supported the mother through overwhelming trauma, helping her understand her rights and access services for her children. When the mother stopped responding, Cynthia never gave up. A month later, the mother contacted Solace for crisis stabilization, and Cynthia reconnected with her. Cynthia also helped the family apply for Crime Victims Reparation to cover funeral costs for a loved one and connected them with support from law enforcement. Still terrified, the mother struggled to feel safe—until Cynthia helped her secure a restraining order. Cynthia finally heard calm return to her voice.
Anabella St. Peter, MA, LPCC, Clinical Manager & Bilingual Clinician An adult client came to Solace with anxiety she carried since childhood. She had been sexually abused by an uncle for two years, and when she disclosed it, her mother did not believe her. The memory was buried until a holiday invitation revealed her abuser would attend, forcing her to confront her past trauma. In therapy, we began by building safety through a strong, trusting alliance. She learned practical tools to manage her symptoms. While her anxiety didn’t vanish overnight, she slowly grew confident in navigating it.
Over time, she processed her trauma—no longer seeing it as a collision between her past and her life today, but as a road that could finally merge and move forward. Triggers softened. Glimmers appeared—sparks of joy, promise, and possibility. She began to understand that what happened was behind her, and healing was ahead.
Mary Beth Lindsey, Manager, Education & Prevention After basketball practice, an eighth-grade team captain noticed teammates targeting a new player in the locker room. When he asked what was happening, they dismissed it as “just messing around.” But he recognized the behavior as nonconsensual touching—more than horseplay. He remembered a Solace guest speaker who had discussed sexual assault hazing in athletics as an abuse of power and control. He also recalled recent national cases at NMSU and UNM and wondered why no one had spoken up sooner. The captain chose to act, reporting what he witnessed to his coach. As he left the office, other teammates quietly asked if he had told. When he nodded, their relief was clear—and they followed him in to share what they had seen. The coach reported the harm, law enforcement responded, and a forensic interview was conducted at Solace.

The Power of Community
When generosity leads, community rises for survivors
Santa Fe Association of Realtors Last April, the Santa Fe Association of Realtors (SFAR) rallied the community around Solace through a lively bowling fundraiser that brought together realtors and local supporters alike. With generous donations from many in the real estate community—along with friends and neighbors across Santa Fe—the event raised an inspiring $17,200 to support Solace survivors. This outpouring of community care is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people come together with compassion and purpose.
