The start of the 2025 season was a fantastic weekend with some big attendances at CJRL venues and some fantastic weather. Hopefully both trends will continue across the 2025 season.

A reminder to clubs that every team put out on the field needs to have an appropriate First Responder in attendance at their game. Specifically, these are Level 1 trainer or Level 2 trainer for each team in u13 and above fixtures (tackle and leaguetag). For u6-u12 ages competitions, the minimum First Responder permitted is a League First Aider, with one in attendance for each match the minimum requirement.

Current accreditation is mandatory, and trainers must wear the correct shirt/vest that relates to their First Responder role. These are not negotiable.

Best of luck to all teams taking to the field this weekend.

Roosters take over Sunday NRL Footy Show

This week, one of our clubs has some great news: the Menai Roosters and their young players were featured on the Sunday Footy Show. On the big screen, the Junior players seized the chance to stand next to some of the greatest NRL players, such as El Masri and Freddy Filter. The Rooster got a chance to compete in the weekly 'Freddy's Pass off Challenge' which they are now in 3rd place overall for the 2025 season.

Clubs Secretary Deanne stated “For the Menai Roosters this was a humbling experience filled with so many childhood memories for our club President Hayden, and our kids. We are grateful for the opportunity and our members back at the ground and clubhouse cheered us on.

Congratulations to Riley and Lily May for representing the Cronulla Junior Rugby League and Menai Roosters JRLFC.

One family, One team, One community - that's our team- Menai Roosters where big dreams really do come true”!

These sorts of stories are what make Rugby League the greatest game of all, so keep on sending them in throughout the year. Make sure you keep up to date with all the good news, highlights and stories as the season goes on.

Archie Oldfield played his 100th game for Kurnell on Saturday when he ran out for the Stingrays u13 gold team.

NSWRL RESPECT Round

NSWRL RESPECT Round

2025 #RESPECT PROGRAM OUTLINE

Our theme this year is POSITIVE WORDS HAVE POWER

In 2025, we ask all our participants to carefully choose the words they use, acknowledge and refrain from using derogatory, hateful, disrespectful and offensive language, and instead use words that inspire, compliment, encourage and embrace diversity and inclusion.

‘Positive Words Have Power’ allows us to acknowledge that words have the ability to either hurt or heal, to inspire or discourage, to insult or praise. The words we use can affect a person’s self-confidence and self-worth, the way they look at and value themselves, and the way in which they feel able to express themselves.

#RESPECT ROUND

#RESPECT Round will be a month-long campaign kicking off on 12-13 April and closing on 16 May with the winners being announced on 23 May.

All Clubs, teams and match officials will be asked to participate in game-day protocols where team captains and match officials meet in the middle of the field before each game and shake hands as a show of #RESPECT.

2025 NSWRL DANIELLE KIFOOTI #RESPECT AWARD

The NSWRL #RESPECT Award is named after Danielle Kifooti, who passed away in February 2024. Danielle founded the annual #Respect Round in 2016.

The top three clubs as judged for their pledge and 25 words or less stating what impact positive words have on their clubs’ teams and culture will be awarded a prize, along with the top club being presented with the 2025 NSWRL Danielle Kifooti #RESPECT Award.

Prizes include 1st NSWRL signed Jersey and opportunity for club’s nominated team to attend the Westpac NSW Blues Captain’s Run, 2nd $1000 Steeden voucher and 3rd $500 adidas voucher.

WE HOPE CLUBS TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP A STRONG FRAMEWORK WHICH WILL DELIVER AN EVEN STRONGER CULTURE AT YOUR CLUB. THIS WILL IN TURN ALLOW US, AS A GAME, TO PROVIDE A BETTER GAME-DAY EXPERIENCE FOR ALL OUR PARTICIPANTS.

WE ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO PARTICIPATION IN THE #RESPECT ROUND GAME-DAY PROTOCOLS WHICH WILL REINFORCE OUR MESSAGE OF #RESPECT FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS IN THE GAME.

Club News

At Captain Cook Oval on Saturday, a bumper crowd saw De La Salle go down narrowly to the current back-to-back reigning premiers in the Power Waste Management Cup, Joeys. The game was a thriller, with De La Salle leading at half-time before finally going down 24-16.

The game saw the debut of Andrew Fifita with De La Salle, and he appeared to revel in the attention from the Joeys pack. Fifita played the full 80 minutes for De La Salle, completing a big day which began with him coaching his Sharks Tarsha Gale Cup squad against the Wests Tigers, coached by his brother David. The Tigers edged the Sharks out by 2 points, but the Sharks live to fight another day after finishing the season in 8th position and scraping into finals.

Team of the Week

Team Liaison Officer

 Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.

 The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.

 Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.

 The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.

 At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).

 The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).

WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER, THE MATCH OFFICIAL MAY REQUEST THE GROUND MANAGER ADDRESS THIS IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE MATCH COMMENCES
