Chairmans Update

Chairman’s Update

After two weeks of washed-out Rugby League in the Shire, it’s great we can get back on the paddock this weekend.

After a great start to the 2024 season, on behalf of the CJRL board I am pleased to announce that open age representative Rugby League will return to the calendar this year when a CJRL representative team takes on Penrith JRL on Saturday 8 June. This match will be hosted by CJRL at Sutherland Oval, with a 3pm kick-off.

More announcements re the final squad and staff will be made in the coming weeks. All players in CJRL open gold teams are currently under consideration for selection in this squad.

I am also thrilled to announce that CJRL have eclipsed our 2023 participation record of around 5650, and we recently went past 6000 registered participants across all tackle and tag competitions. This reflects a wonderful commitment from all our clubs and volunteers who give so much to their clubs and the game in the Shire.

Our sincere thanks and congratulations to you all.

Page | 5

Congratulations to everyone involved at our CJRL clubs who enable this to happen with their efforts!

We have again set a new benchmark for CJRL registrations and they are still coming in.

NRL Development News and Updates

Tackle Ready Objectives:

➢ Players - Provide a systematic introduction to tackling and being tackled with the aim of enhancing players competence and confidence leading to a greater level of enjoyment.

➢ Coaches - Educate entry level club coaches with the necessary skills to teach new Rugby League participants how to tackle and how to be tackled safely.

➢ Parents - Give parents peace of mind, and highlight the games commitment to offering a safe, inclusive environment.

It should be noted that the Tackle Ready program comprises six sessions that are to be completed by all participants prior to them being eligible to take part in tackle Rugby League.

This requirement is now enshrined in the laws of the game. Coaches are not permitted to attempt to alter the format of games as required under the PDF framework and the Tackle Ready program.

Sharks Have A Heart

Sharks Mental Fitness Round – Gotcha4Life Partnership

In an initiative championed by Nicho Hynes, we have partnered with leading mental health organisation Gotcha4Life. Our Round 9 clash against the Dragons will be our inaugural Mental Fitness Round – this fixture will be a platform to raise the awareness around mental health and wellbeing, how to support and look out for each other and promote the great work and resources that Gotcha4Life can provide. The lead-up to the clash has featured a range of content pieces from Gotcha4Life founder Gus Worland as well as Nicho. The content ranges from candid interviews with both Gus and Nicho, featuring tips on how to look after your mental fitness as well as how you can support the mental fitness of those around you.

The Cronulla JRL also recently held a Mental Fitness Round at the Super Saturday event, where mental health awareness and support was promoted.

Day of play will remain as Saturday.

Following Round 6 of the competition, a re-grading will be conducted to form Gold and Silver competitions.

Round 4 games in the competition this Saturday include Engadine v Como-Jannali at Anzac Oval and Cronulla-Caringbah v De La Salle at Cronulla High school.

In the Southern Corridor u18 boys competition Bosco Bulldogs host Corrimal Cougars on Sunday, and Aquinas host Thirroul at Sutherland Oval on Sunday, whilst in the u18 silver competition Taren Point host Hurstville on Sunday, and Aquinas travel to the Illawarra to take on Port Kembla/Dapto on Saturday.

Team of the Week

This weeks “Team of the Week” thoroughly deserves the accolade. The Kurnell Stingrays Under 11 Leaguetag team have fought hard for the last two seaons without finishing on the winning side of a scoreline.

That all changed on Saturday 27 April when the girls overcame Engadine to grab their first win, and didn’t they celebrate!!!

Milestone Games

Menai celebrated 100 games for Kaden Britter during round two. Congratluations Kaden!

Gymea had three reasons to celebrate in Round 3 with (left to right) Carter Smith, Cameron Andrews and Levi Pouhotaua playing their 100th game for the club in the u12 gold fixture.

Send us photos of milestone games at your club generalmanager@cronullajrl.com.au

Player of the Week

Thanks to the great support of Sharks Kareela, our “Player of the Week” award is from the Power Waste Management Open Gold Como-Jannali v Engadine match match, Como-Jannali #10 Ryan Archer. As is often the case, Ryan turned in another talisman performance for the Crocs and played with the energy of a much younger man.

Ryan will receive a $25 voucher to spend on food and beverages at Sharks Kareela and a $25 merchandise voucher to spend on Sharks merchandise.

Congratulations Ryan!

Team Liaison Officer

 Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.

 The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.

 Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.

 The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.

 At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).

 The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).

NO MATCH IS TO COMMENCE WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER.
