After getting underway in April, we now are at the final weekend of our 2024 season.
Congratulations to all those who have qualified for a grand final this weekend. Enjoy the experience no matter what the result is, and remember it’s a great achievement to even qualify for a grand final.
The season has proven challenging, with rain disrupting six rounds of football, two of which we able to be replayed. We appreciate this is not ideal and have taken this up with Sutherland Shire Council (SSC). They are now conducting an audit of playing fields to prioritise drainage, irrigation and surface remediation works. I believe there will be some projects to improve drainage and irrigation at some CJRL venues activated in the new year as these were the subject of grant applications by SSC some time age.
In the hope of making a difference with regard to the lack of investment in community playing fields across the Shire, I am standing as candidate at the upcoming council elections. If I am elected I will certainly ensure that the current state of playing fields is made aware to councilors and the urgent need for investment which our ratepayers deserve.
Thanks to all our 6108 participants who set another record mark, and to all our volunteers who make our clubs and match days function. To our partners Aramex, Zambrero, Power Waste Management, ISC, LAIDRE, Pedwards Group, Shire Steel and Fabrication, and Block and Grapple our sincere thanks for your support. To the Sharks team for their co-operation and support, and to NSWRL staff and officials, and our NRL Development staff a big thanks for your efforts.
Best of luck to all who are participating this weekend, and we hope to see all of you back in 2025.

In U18 boys’ silver, Cronulla-Caringbah have taken out the minor premiership and Hurstville have won their semi-finals and now face off for the title on Sunday 1 September, 1.40pm at Forshaw Park.
In the u18 girls’ competition, Cronulla-Caringbah were upset by an in-form Engadine 16-14, and the Dragons will face minor premier Campbelltown City at Kirkham Park Camden on Saturday at 2.00pm

Joeys collected their maiden A grade premiership in 2023, after a defeat in the decider in 2022. Can they go back-to-back in 2024?

Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.
The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.
The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.
Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.
The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.
The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.
At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).
The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).
NO MATCH IS TO COMMENCE WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER.
Lochi McMartin-Catllett (Gymea) and Kai Capelin (De La Salle) get familiar with the Power Waste Management Emerging Cup which they will battle for on Sunday at PointsBet Stadium.
Congratulations to Gamal Elsayed who played his 100th game on Sunday in the Aquinas semfinal win over Engadine in u16 gold.
A big congratulations and best of luck to Gymea player Jay Mcaughlin who will run out for his 200th game as a Gorilla in Sundays Power Waste Management Emerging Cup grand final against De La Salle.
A great achievement for Jay and what an occasion to bring up such a milestone!!
