Some interesting results across our senior competitions last weekend will create plenty of interest for the coming finals.

Gymea taking down Joeys in their first loss of 2024 meant Como-Jannali slipped under their guard to take the minor premiership which is a great achievement for the Crocs.

Congratulations to Gymea who are minor premiers in Power Waste Management Plate and Emerging Cup competitions which is a great show of depth.

On a similar note, Bosco have taken down Thirroul twice in three games in u18 gold to inflict their only losses in 2024, and also put themselves in the box seat to host the U18 Gold grand final on Saturday 31 August at Forshaw Park.

Congratulations to minor premiers in all our competitions, and to all teams who have qualified for finals. To those who won’t play finals we hoped you have enjoyed your season and hope to see you back in 2025.

Recent gala days have been well received and played in great spirit

Team of the Week

Our team of the week is Yarrawarrah U12 silver Leaguetag. Despite not winning a game this year, they have stuck it out and improved immensely.

This team is one of the first female teams the club has fielded, and the first u12 Leaguetag team the cub has fielded.

Lets hope we see them back in 2025 to chase that elusive first win!!

Club News

Gymea Gorillas Junior Rugby League Football Club not only have a commanding presence on the field, but are leaving significant footprints off it with a $20,000 donation to the children’s cancer organisation, Sporting Chance.

Gorillas secretary Scott Miller said the club originally set a target of $10,000 but the enthusiasm among the individual teams to raise money became infectious.

The cheque was presented after all the games were finished yesterday. Pictured above (L-R): the club mascot, President Jordan Moyle, Sporting Chance founder Jack Hughes, Mark Coyne, club Secretary Scott Miller.

“At the start of the season we had the guys from Sporting Chance come to present to us about who they are and what they’re about,” Miller told nswrl.com.au.

“It got everyone inspired and they set targets for each team within the club.”

The Gorillas have 64 teams, including 21 Girls teams, and each of them set out a program of cake stalls, guessing games, BBQs, lamington drives, lolly bags, and even jibbitz sales.

“They are the little symbols you attach to your Croc shoes and one team took it upon themselves to get the Gorillas club logo made into a jibbitz and they sold those,” Miller said.

“It was genius because they sold like hotcakes.”

It is not Gymea’s first sojourn into raising funds for community causes.

Earlier in the year the club made special Anzac Day shirts, which they sold to raise funds for the Cronulla Veterans Association. It led to a cheque for $1,000 being presented.

Origin stars James Tedesco and Mark Coyne are also patrons of Sporting Chance, with Coyne having an attachment to the club after relocating to Sydney to play with St George in 1989.

“It’s the club getting together for something worthwhile and everyone has fun doing it,” Miller said.

“Obviously, we’re a Rugby League club primarily but we still have our place in the community. Already people are asking us ‘What targets are we going to set next year?’

“Teddy retweeted a post we put up about congratulating everyone and the kids just loved that a big star like him noticed their charity work.

“It’s great to see a culture within the club of helping others and wanting to go bigger and better next year,” Miller said.

Team Liaison Officer

 Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.

 The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.

 Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.

 The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.

 At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).

 The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).

NO MATCH IS TO COMMENCE WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER.

The interrupted season has resulted in an abridged finals format which will be played over two weeks instead of three.
