The improved weather has allowed our fields to dry out in the last fortnight and allowed us to get back on the fields for back-to-back weeks which has been fantastic.

This weekend looks like we can return to Blaxland Oval after recent irrigation works by council have completed, which is a great boost for the Aquinas club. A big thanks to the Sutherland-Loftus JLRFC for helping accommodate Aquinas home games for the last few months.

As we head towards our final weeks of competition rounds, we can confirm upcoming gala days for Leaguetag (u7 – u9) on Sunday 11 August and for tackle competitions (u6-u9) on Saturday 17 August.

Lastly, I would ask all Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers to assist in looking after our younger match officials, and be pro-active in addressing any comments from trainers, coaches, interchange benches or spectators, which only serves to place more pressure on these youngsters who are still learning their roles, and discourages them continuing in future seasons

Team Liaison Officer

 Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.

 The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.

 Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.

 The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.

 At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).

 The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).

NO MATCH IS TO COMMENCE WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER.

The Engadine Dragons hold the u17 premiership trophy aloft after defeating De La Salle in the 1984 decider.

The Engadine Dragons will celebrate 40 years since their 1984 u17 premiership team, which went on to more success in 1986 in the u19 competition, and in u23s in 1987. Several players from this team went on to play for the Sharks at NRL level (Ken Ebb, Paul Bell, Mitch Healey, and others were graded at St George (Shaun O’Bryan, Glenn Nelson, Anthony Knight, Kevin Green, Adam Brown).

The club extends an invitation to all former players and coaching staff involved with this team to join the celebration on Sat 3 August at Anzac Oval, when they take on local rivals Bosco Bulldogs from 3.10pm.

Celebrations will commence at midday at Engadine Bowling Club, before heading down to Anzac Oval for the Power Waste Management Cup clash.

Jeff Killick who calls our BarTV match of the round was a part of this premiership success in 1984 and 1986, and will call the game from Anzac Oval including interviews with members of the successful Dragons team including South Sydney hooker Ken Stewart who coached the team to success. Jeff still has fond memories of the team.

“As a kid, I loved watching Ken Stewart as Souths Sydney hooker growing up, then to be coached by him was very special. It was my first ever premiership after 10 years playing junior league, something I will never forget” – to be able to celebrate this success 40 years later with the same blokes is amazing”

Catch the live stream on BarTV and enjoy the celebrations.
