Just when we all hoped to get back on the field last weekend, rain beyond all predictions again left us with no choice but to abandon both Saturday and Sunday schedules.
After we confirmed that all washed out fixtures from Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June would be played on the spare weekend of 13/14 July, another washed out weekend only exacerbates the situation as we now seek to accommodate more deferred matches in a season calendar that allows limited opportunity to play outside of scheduled fixtures.
Meetings this week with both Sutherland Shire Football Association to share our thoughts on this situation, and with Sutherland Shire Council to voice our concerns regarding the current lack of drainage at many of our allocated venues, have been productive. I am now more positive that this situation will be a focus for council in the near future.
After consideration of available options to extend the season or to adjust the schedule to accommodate playing of our most recent washed out round, consultation with all stakeholders in Sthn Sydney Conference competitions has confirmed the only option available is to condense the finals series from three weeks to two weeks (similar to NSWRL Major Competitions 1v4, 2v3 format in week one with winners progressing to grand finals) with the 22/23 June fixtures now to be played on 17/18 August. The dates for finals will now be 24/25 August with grand finals on 31 August/1 September.

Engadine Dragons have been holding their Tomorrow Man & Tomorrow Woman Workshops recently.
We have our club Mental Health First Aid Officers - Sarah Gurney, Adam Peek, and Jackie Wood who were accredited through the CJRL training with Mental Health First Aid Australia.
We’ve had more kids attend the workshops this year, and more workshops than ever before. Our club is doing a lot of work in the Mental Fitness space, with so much more to do.
Just some of the feedback from parents of the workshops we’ve held this year;
“Such a powerful session, not a dry eye in the room”
“It’s powerful & articulate, it challenges the norm and puts perspective in place”.
“Thank you for organising such a worthwhile initiative for our community”.
It’s important to us to support our players both on and off the field.

Team Liaison Officer
Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.
The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.
The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.
Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.
The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.
The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.
At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).
The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).
NO MATCH IS TO COMMENCE WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER.
