1 No. 10.

The 2024 season has certainly been frustrating with four weekends impacted by poor weather.

With re-gradings now completed, we can confirm that last weekend’s fixtures across Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June will now be played on the spare weekend of 13/14 July.

We will continue to consult with NSWRL and St George district about how any further weather events impact our draws as the season heads towards finals.

We will also raise with local council the dire need to invest in improving draining at most CJRL venues, as the majority of our fields have virtually no adequate drainage which compounds the issue when we experience extended periods of rain as we have of late.

My thanks to clubs that agreed to take on additional games last weekend after we experienced a downpour over Marton Park, Kurnell, late on Friday afternoon. Little did we know that further overnight rain in excess of forecast levels would see more fields covered in pools of water when we woke up on Saturday.

The decision to call off games is not one we enjoy, especially when we have had several rounds impacted this year. Safety of our all participants is a primary concern when playing surfaces become impacted by playing in these conditions, along with the longer-term damage that can result in council closing grounds for weeks whilst remedial work is undertaken.

Team Liaison Officer

 Each team must provide a “Team Liaison Officer” (TLO) who will act as a contact point for the Ground Manager during fixtures at CJRL venues. Should supporters /spectators from either club behave in a manner that would previously been dealt with by the Ground Manager, from this point the Ground Manager will engage the relevant Team Liaison Officer to address this issue with the spectators involved.

 The Ground Manager at each venue will hold two Hi-Vis Pink vests that each Team Liaison Officer will be required to wear during the course of the match so they can be easily identified. The TLO is to make themselves known to the Ground Manager prior to the start of the match, and names of each TLO recorded on match sheets.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to remain near the bench area for his or her team during the match, but remain outside the roped/fenced playing area.

 Ground Managers and Team Liaison Officers shall not be permitted to drink alcohol prior to or whilst acting in these roles.

 The Team Liaison Officer will be required to assist in resolving any situation that may occur relating to their teams’ spectators/supporters. ie: trying to calm the situation down before it escalates.

 The Team Liaison Officer will work with and assist the Ground Manager. The Ground Manager still has the responsibility of maintaining control of spectators, interchange bench areas, and liaising with match officials, this is not the role of the Team Liaison Officer.

 At the end of the match the Hi-Vis Pink vest is to be handed back to the Ground Manager (not left on the interchange bench or on the ground).

 The Team Liaison Officer (as per the Ground Manager) should be a person capable of maintaining a calm demeanour and be a minimum of 18 years of age. Ideally the TLO would be someone closely aligned with the team but cannot be carrying out an accredited match day role (coach, trainer etc).

NO MATCH IS TO COMMENCE WITHOUT EACH TEAM LIAISON OFFICER BEING IN PLACE ALONG WITH THE GROUND MANAGER.

Southern Corridor Competitions

Despite the wet weather, some Southern Corridor Competition fixtures went ahead over the weekend.

In under 18 gold, Bosco and Aquinas made the trek to Illawarra on Sunday and went down in tight games. Bosco went down 14-8 to Wests, whilst Corrimal prevailed over Aquinas by 114.

In the under 18 girls competition, Cronulla-Caringbah remain undefeated after a 36-0 win over Camden at Camden on Saturday.

This Sunday will see Bosco face Thrroul at Gibson Park on Sunday at 12.15pm which will determine an outright competition leader in the u18 boys gold competition. Como-Jannali open age women’s team will take the field for the first time in 2024 after washouts, byes and forfeits have prevented them participating in a fixture so far. They take on competition leaders Corrimal Cougars on Sunday at 2.50pm at Scylla Bay Reserve.

In the u18 girls competition on Saturday, Engadine (4th) will host Campbelltown City (3rd), De La Salle and Como-Jannalli face off at Captain Cook Oval, and first placed Cronulla-Caringbah host Collegians at Cronulla HS.
