Thoughts Behind the Art:
For this assignment, I wanted to create two symbols that represent hobbies that I like and one symbol to represent the tattoo that I have. The first symbol I made is a person in a book sitting since reading is one of my favorite hobbies. The second symbol is an abstract camera since I love photography. I didn’t want it to be obvious, so I made half of the lines wavy. For the last symbol, I have moon tattoos and have always found melting shapes to be pretty, so I wanted it to look at dropped down as possible while still having its shape.

When it came to the background, I wanted it to look like it was on a wall in Egypt. For the border I looked up Egyptian patterns and based the border on them.

For the words I chose Gargoyle since that is usually what I think of when I remember the gothic art and architecture era. For the picture I choose to hand draw a Gargoyle in Photoshop and then export it was a Jpeg into Illustrator. I then put them all together on the page and made a border using some of the pieces from the font.

I choose the Humanism time period during the renaissance. After looking up information on what the Humanism movement was about, I decided that I wanted my font to be something that resembles the font from old books. I found Charpentier Renaissance font that is modeled after the fonts commonly used during the rise of the printing press. For the image I chose to make a quill out of all of the letters.
