When Al and Judy Kreger arrived in Greenville more than 33 years ago, they had no idea they would be calling the Palmetto State home for the rest of their lives.

The Pittsburgh natives say the city has provided them with much-needed spiritual benefits, which is why they’ve decided to remain in Greenville and make the next move on their adventure to call Rolling Green Village their forever home.

“We’ve decided that Rolling Green Village is a very active community, and we’re looking forward to becoming part of their family,” said Al Kreger.

The Kregers are two of nearly 100 residents who will be making the move into Rolling Green Village’s multimillion-dollar expansion, which will provide 60 new 1-and 2-bedroom apartments with modern floor plan options. Along with apartments, the community will offer 23 new cottages with walkout and daylight basements.

The construction of the expansion began in 2018 and is expected to be completed in spring 2020.

“Our community has evolved to continue to meet the needs of seniors since we first opened 34 years ago,” said Executive Director Robert Benson. “This expansion is the perfect way to celebrate how far we’ve come, and to look forward to a long future of serving the area’s vibrant and active older adults.” continued on next page

In Greenville County, more than 15% of the population has already reached their senior years, a number that will continue to climb as the Baby Boomers age. Already home to more than 500 residents, Rolling Green Village will provide additional options and amenities for current residents, as well as meet the changing desires of the newest generation of seniors.

“We tend to think of homeownership and staying in our own home as the best option,” said future Rolling Green Village resident Cynthia Bremer. “I hear this a lot with my friends and others. I disagree with that. I think that being in a community, not just for the amenities, but because you’re connected, provides opportunities for lifelong learning and ways to make new friends.”

Cynthia and her husband, Carl, will be moving into a cottage. The two said they made the decision to move to Rolling Green Village based on their life planning research and the continuum of onsite care offered.

“We really wanted to explore options for a community that offers a continuum of care,” said Cynthia.

“We always want to believe that we can still do all the things we’ve done earlier in our life, and that we can be as active, and do all the same physical things. But when you get into your 60s, and now we’re in our 70s, you realize that you have to make adjustments. You have to accommodate for your physical situation.”

As a Life Plan Community, Rolling Green Village offers residents an active, independent lifestyle free from worries about their future health care needs.

Residents have lifelong access to a full continuum of care on campus at the Rolling Green Village Health Center, which includes assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehabilitation.

The Kregers say the care options were crucial in their decision process. Al has had several health setbacks, and wanted to make sure his care and living needs will continue to be made by him, not by his family.

“I’m one who likes to plan ahead,” said Al. “I don’t want to wait until there’s a medical issue, or health concerns, and then the kids have to come in and decide for me where I’m going to be. I want to be at Rolling Green Village. So we’ve decided that’s where we want to be. I think we’ll be happy here.” continued on next page
