Women’s presence in governance processes and leadership spaces around the Caribbean remains inadequate.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU), April 1st 2022 data reveals the percentage of women elected as Members of Parliament in:
Trinidad and Tobago (26.2%);
Antigua and Barbuda (11.1%);
Barbados (26.7%);
Belize (12.5%); Bahamas (18%);
Saint Kitts and Nevis (25%); and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (18.2%).
All are below the 30% threshold recommended in the 1996 UN Beijing Platform for Action.
T&T ranked 37 out of 156 countries in terms of gender parity according to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report of 2021.
