Watercare Services (WSL), Beca, and the Joint Venture of McConnell Dowell and HEB Construction has successfully delivered one of the most sophisticated wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) built in New Zealand to date.

WSL, with the expertise and commitment of Beca and the JV, were able to go above and beyond what was required of the Pukekohe WWTP upgrade and construct an industry transforming facility, building better, not bigger, in order to contribute to the protection and restoration of the Waikato River.

Features that make this project stand out are the level of complexity of both the build and of working in a live operational environment, the sequencing required to meet the discharge requirements due to go live in October 2021, the accelerated timeframe due to high population growth in the catchment, the strong relationships fostered between all parties, and the profound sense of ownership by everyone onsite of the common goal to deliver a quality product to the client.
