An apprenticeship is a programme where you work for an employer while learning a specific job or trade.
7 key facts you need to know:
With an Apprenticeship you earn a salary and get practical experience while also studying related knowledge. An apprenticeship combines on-the-job training with formal learning.
1. An apprenticeship is a real job.
Apprenticeships are for anyone 16 years or over. You can study apprenticeships at different levels – from Level 2 to Level 6 (degree level). At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have the skills and qualifications you need to progress in your career. Apprenticeships are employer led. In order to gain an apprenticeship you must have an employer who is willing to employ you. Here at the College we work with many of the region’s largest employers so we can help you find the right employer for you.
*What you will earn depends on the industry, location and type of apprenticeship you choose. If you’re aged 16 to 19 or in the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the apprenticeship minimum hourly rate of £7.55.
2. You will be paid a salary.* 3. Apprenticeships last a minimum of 12 months and range from Level 2 to Level 7. 4. Your training will be fully funded. 5. Apprentices will receive paid off-thejob learning. 6. Apprentices will spend most of their time on-the-job. 7. There are thousands of apprenticeships in more than 170 industries, including Animal and Land-based, Business and Administration, Computing and IT, Early Years and Childcare, Engineering and Manufacturing, Sports Coaching and more!
