My New Position
Iam pleased to announce that I have stepped down as Executive Director of Healthy New Albany. For the past five years, I have had the opportunity of a lifetime to serve this remarkable nonprofit organization that is woven into the fabric of our very special community. My transition as a strategic advisor to Healthy New Albany will enable me to support the health of my community, albeit in a less formal manner.
Healthy New Albany evolved from a grassroots effort that began with the implementation of the New Albany Walking Classic and transformed to become an innovative model of how a community could promote and create a culture of health. One need not look further than the programs and services that have been implemented throughout the years. Healthy New Albany oversees the New Albany farmers market, community garden, Food Pantry and its state-of-the-art programs such as Studio 55+ that is focused on providing activities for the older population, “I am Thriving,” a program for female cancer survivors, “Trick, It’s a Treat,” a healthy Halloween activity that attracts hundreds of young kiddos each year, the New Albany Kids Virtual Marathon and hundreds more programs and activities. This magazine, published in partnership with CityScene Media Group is another example of how Healthy New Albany has impacted our city. Speaking of Healthy New Albany Magazine, I am pleased to share that I will continue in my role as executive editor. That means you will continue to be subjected to my funky outfits. Sorry ‘bout that.
Healthy New Albany is thriving because of its people and relationships. Its staff is incredibly committed, talented and caring. We would not have made an impact if it weren’t for the support, both financial and advisory that we have received from a plethora of organizations, individual and corporate donors and our city government. I cannot say enough about the hundreds of volunteers who have been a part of us throughout the years.
Finally, the future of Healthy New Albany is in great hands. Angela Douglas, the current director of operations at Healthy New Albany and former executive director of the New Albany Food Pantry is the new Executive Director. Speaking on behalf of the HNA Board and having worked with Angela extensively, I know the future of HNA and its presence in the community will be enhanced under Angela’s leadership.
Healthfully,
Phil Heit Executive Director Emeritus Healthy New Albany
