Dear neighbour, We would like to update you on the Christmas Block of Line (BOL) activities that will be happening between Saturday 26 December 2020 and Sunday 31 January 2021. What does this mean for you? Saturday 26 December 2020 – Sunday 10 January 2021 (inclusive) Kiwirail will complete important improvements and maintenance work across the network Link Alliance will undertake a variety of construction activities along the rail corridor between Grafton scissors and Dominion Road overpass Monday 11 January – 31 January 2021 Freight trains, work trains and hi-rails resume (no passenger trains) Link Alliance will continue with BOL activities and resume “business as usual” construction activities on site Block of Line works will include Sundays and Public Holidays To make it easier to find the work that is located in your area, we’ve separated the activities into five zones across the station.

Install 300 x temporary sheet piles within the rail corridor to provide soil retention, excavation support and a safety barrier Sheet piles are sections of sheet steel with interlocking edges that are vibrated into the ground to form a wall (see image below). An excavatormounted vibro-hammer will be used to place the piles into position.

Track Formation & Drainage Works
Where:
Within the rail corridor (starting opposite 33 Boston Road and progressing West towards the motorway overpass)
Scope of work:
Remove existing ballast and track formation, excavate under the existing down main railway track, construct new track formation (subgrade and subsoil levels) and drainage, reinstate ballast and sand drag The subgrade is the native material that lies underneath a constructed road or railway track. It is made up of layers of granular material such as sand, gravel and crushed stone. This granular material is combined with layers of geosynthetic materials such as geogrid and geotextile that are used to reinforce and stabilise soil behind retaining walls.

Install a gravity concrete block hoarding with pre-fabricated timber frames and timber hoarding panels. (Similar to the image below). To install the gravity block hoarding we’ll use a hi-ab truck, and telehandler if required, to lift the frames and blocks into place then attach the timber panels and diagonal bracing with hand tools. Trucks will be delivering materials

Excavate to approximately 2 metres deep, backfill with aggregate material and compact to ground level

Scope of work:
Excavate along Fenton Street in stages, install 1300mm diameter pipe, backfill each area, compact and asphalt
Duration:
Approximately three months to complete

Two large excavators, concrete breaker, hydrovac, compactor, 6-8 wheel trucks
What to expect:
Late January (date TBC)
Noise and vibration from excavation, concrete breaking and compacting Traffic management in place to maintain vehicle access to private property
As with all our construction activity, we will be monitoring for noise, dust and vibration and have monitoring equipment in place that will alert us if we are going over set limits. We will also be: Using attended monitoring during construction to measure noise and vibration levels so we can make adjustments to our construction methods, if necessary Receiving deliveries within normal working hours (where possible) Scheduling concrete deliveries within normal working hours (where possible) Keeping you informed and giving plenty of advance notice about any works that need to take place outside of normal working hours We’ll be working between 7am and 10pm Monday to Friday and 7am – 7pm on Saturday. We will keep you informed regarding any work that falls outside of these hours, further details and any changes.
