Beresford Square Detailed Utilities Work Update Dear neighbours, As per our works update from late December 2019, construction of the Beresford Square entrance for Karangahape Station began on 6 January. These initial works involve the relocation of underground utility services such as electricity, telecommunications, gas, wastewater and water, all located within the station’s construction footprint. This work is complex, with more than 20 different ducts and pipes needing to be located, identified and relocated. This includes the installation of additional pipes and ducts to ensure that the area is future proofed. The large number of services means that these trenches may be up to 3.5 metres wide and in some areas we will need to make two trenches, up to 1.5 metres wide. This utility work is expected to take four to six months.

How work be staged and what does it involve? We have begun our trenching work along the northern (Karangahape Business Association) side of Beresford Square and will then trench across the street (near Samoa House Lane) before starting on the southern side of the square. For the second trench we will repeat this staging. Depending on the width of the trench we aim to complete 4 – 12 metres in length, from excavation to reinstatement every two days. Please note that there are several variables, such as encountering unmarked services, that can delay our progress. We will liaise with individual buildings and business owners as our works approach.
