Karangahape Station update, SIBD consultation, Public Realm

Purpose To provide information regarding: •

Key milestone for Mercury Lane and Beresford Square and an update on tunnel progress.

Identify the key proposed design elements for Beresford Square from Stage A consultation, share the plans for Mercury Lane and the process moving forward for Stage B consultation.

Meeting notes and Q&As Michael Richardson (KBA)– Expressed he thought the findings from the SIBD were generally good.

He wanted to know lessons learned and what could be done better next time. He offered to provide a review of the initial consultation process as he felt there was definite room for improvement, and he would like to provide his input.

Adriana Christie (Local Board) – Adriana was interested in the process for responding to complaints.

She wanted to know if there were ready made responses and where the information for them came from. John Daly of SIBD responded that the information comes from the Management Plans and responses are customised depending on the complaint. She also complimented the incorporation of feedback regarding the toilets on the square.

Dave Croucher – Dave was interested in understanding how the tunnels connect via the walk through and how the tunnel was supported. Dan advised the tunnel was rock bolted and the shotcrete (the main supports) is applied as it gets ready for the TBM arrival. Dave also asked about the spoil and where it went. Dan advised of the various sites it is taken to as well as our recycle approach.

Grady Elliot – Grady wanted to know if we were on schedule – Dan replied yes.

Arash Barzan – Are the lane ways in Mercury Lane part of the project. Allan responded yes. Arash also asked if accessibility car parks will be reinstated – Yes. Michael Richardson – Will the car parks identified in the urban realm plans be short term? – Yes (proposed to be but AT will have the final say). How is the dialogue with AT going and when will they finalise the plans? Alan advised conversation with AT is improving and they will finalise the short-term parking.

Adriana Christie – Wanted to get details around the feedback process for urban realm. She thought the work so far was good and encouraged the designers to continue. She was interested to know who commissioned the design. Allan advised CRLL and Link Alliance work with AT and Council as part of the process. She liked the two pedestrian walkways on both sides of Beresford Square station with improved outdoor dining is good news for the businesses. She also complimented the incorporation of feedback regarding the toilets on the square.

Humphrey Tait – Humphrey expressed concern for how dark Samoa House Lane is and asked if further CCTV and other security considerations will be made for that area. Is there consideration to add lighting as the public toilet will be located near the lane and we all know the activity that goes on there. This will be a dangerous area if there is no lighting. Allan responded it was out of scope for the project, but he would bring it up with AC. Also, the lighting going into the Square would be improved.

Michael Richardson – Michael also responded on the issue of security and lack of lights in Samoa House Lane. He said there was an opportunity for KBA to work with urban realm and AT to address

this issue. He expressed they needed a heads up to what areas they could focus on. With advanced notice of what was out of project scope and working with AT and the design team they could be addressing areas now so the improvements would all happen in a timely fashion and not after the fact.
