WILL I GET PAID? #EarnMore Yes! An apprenticeship is a job with training so you will be paid a wage. Your wage will be set by your employer but there is a national minimum wage for apprentices. As your skills progress and develop during your apprenticeship journey, your employer may increase your pay to match the new skills you have acquired. This not only helps your bank account, but gives you an extra incentive to do well in your apprenticeship.

While on your apprenticeship, you will be seen as an employee of the company and will receive a certain amount of paid leave in addition to bank holidays.

WHAT LEVELS ARE THERE? #LearnMore All apprenticeships include elements of on-the-job and off-the-job training, leading to industry-recognised standards or qualifications. Some apprenticeships also require an assessment at the end of the programme to assess your ability and competence in your job role.

Degree Apprenticeships Higher Apprenticeships Advanced Apprenticeships Intermediate Apprenticeships are the first level of apprenticeships. They are designed to equip the apprentice with the skills and knowledge to thrive within the workplace.

Apprentices work at a more advanced level, further enhancing their skills and knowledge.

Get Paid Work in a real job for a real employer. If you want to get a job but haven’t got any work experience, an apprenticeship could get you on the way to full-time work – and you’ll get paid from day one.

Great Experience As an apprentice your main training will be on-the-job.

You will be at work four days a week with one day in college.

You will learn from staff in the industry you want to work in and will gain hands-on experience in the workplace.

Getting Qualified Alongside your work, you will spend a day in college and work toward a national vocational qualification (NVQ) or another nationally recognised qualification – a great addition to your CV.

Discounted Bus Travel All apprentices aged 16-24 are eligible for discounted bus travel with National Express.

Something for Everyone Apprenticeships are high on the government’s agenda; it wants to get you into work, it wants to get you qualified and it wants to make it affordable for you.

This means there are more apprenticeships available than there have been in years gone by – there are currently 250 types of apprenticeships with over 1,000 different job roles available.

Before he launched himself onto the BBC as ‘The Naked Chef’, Jamie Oliver worked as an apprentice and remembered where he started when opening his restaurant, Fifteen, which thrives on apprenticeships. Each year he takes on 15 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Not bad for a man who left school with two GCSEs.

Charlie Mullins founded Pimlico Plumbers, a company now valued at £55 million. He left school at 15 with no qualifications before taking up an apprenticeship. His organisation now has a turnover of £15 million per year and employs 180 people.

John started out his apprenticeship out by sweeping up clipped hair. He went on to become a personal stylist to a number of A-list stars before launching one of the biggest hair care companies in the world.

After completing her fashion design degree Stella McCartney took up an apprenticeship with a tailor on the world-famous Savile Row to learn more about the craft of tailoring and pick up skills of the trade. She went on to launch her own fashion label and is now a world-renowned fashion designer.

Ross Brawn started off as a mechanical craft apprentice and went on to qualify as an instrument mechanic. He is now one of the biggest names in Formula One despite never getting behind the wheel in the sport. He’s been involved with Ferrari, Brawn and Mercedes, which purchased his company for £110 million back in 2009.
