The college boasts three hair training academies - I Wolverhampton, Telford and Worcester – which operate as commercial salons enabling apprentices to gain additional experience of working with clients on the says they attend college to study for their qualifications.

The salons are equipped with a range of industry-standard equipment and professional producsts including: • Keracare shampoos, conditioners and styling products • Professional on-trend colouring products • Hand dryers, hood dryers, and climazone thermal dryers • Professional hair straighteners and curling wands

Apprentices will be taught by experienced tutors who have worked as hairdressers and barbers themselves for many years and, as well as learning theory and practical skills will also benefit from their extensive industry knowledge.

ADVANCED AND CREATIVE HAIR PROFESSIONAL - ST0214

Advanced and creative hair professionals work in the hair industry, which is one of the largest, most trusted and fashion forward professions. They are passionate, driven, highly skilled and experienced professionals who deliver innovative styles inspired by current images and their own creativity, individual flair, imagination and interpretation. They provide a quality service, whilst working to the highest standards and continuously developing their personal and professional skills, and work without supervision, managing themselves and others when required. Health & safety legislation, safe working practices and effective communication related to creating a collection of hairstyle looks. How to complete an in-depth complex analysis of the client hair. Advanced creative colour conversion: • Client Consultation: Health & safety legislation, safe working practices and effective communication related to creative colour conversion. The scientific principles of hair colour conversion services. Relevant tests. How to complete an in-depth complex consultation for advanced creative Colour conversion. Why it is important to consider the effects of the client’s hair and scalp health and condition when deciding on products, techniques and services used. Use and adapt a range of technical skills to create a collection of hairstyle looks using sectioning and cutting guidelines to achieve the required look, precision and personalised cutting techniques tailored to suit individual characteristics, creative finishing and dressing techniques and advanced creative colouring. Use a range of products, tools and equipment in accordance with legal requirements, manufacturers’ instructions and salon policy. • Present a collection of hair looks: Present and promote the collection internally using a visual medium. Evaluate the results of the collection against the research results to improve further practice.

Smoothing and Strengthening Services: • Client consultation: Maintain effective and safe methods of working and effective communication whilst completing smoothing and strengthening services. Carry out indepth complex analysis of the client hair and scalp to plan and agree the smoothing and strengthening services. • Smoothing and Straightening: Use and apply products, tools and equipment, to smooth and strengthen clients’ hair to the degree of straightness required. Resolve problems that may occur during and after the hair smoothing and strengthening process. Use a range of products, tools and equipment in accordance with legal requirements, manufacturers’ instructions and salon policy. Evaluate the results of the service and provide advice on future services and products.

Advanced creative colour conversion: • Client consultation: Maintain effective and safe methods of working and effective communication whilst completing Creative colour conversion services. Carry out tests and an in-depth complex consultation of the client hair and scalp to plan and agree the creative colour conversion service. Analyse factors influencing the selection of the colour conversion technique used. • Creative colour conversion: Provide a creative colour conversion service to change the depth and tone of the hair in accordance with legal requirements and manufacturer’s instructions. Creative Colour conversion services including using creative sectioning techniques to personalise the colour result and enhance the finished look, toning through bespoke creative formulation, colour blending/shading, resolve problems that may occur during creative colour conversion service • Advanced colour conversion (correction):

Removing artificial colour - removing bands of colour, recolouring hair treated with lightener, using pre-pigmentation and colour, recolouring hair that has had artificial colour removed, correcting highlights and lowlights.

Using and applying the products, tools and equipment, in accordance with legal requirements, manufacturers’ instructions and salon policy. • Products: using semi- permanent, quasi (mildly oxidising), permanent colour, prelighteners, colour removers for artificial colour. Completing and evaluating the results of the service and provide advice on future services, aftercare and products.

Advanced and Creative Hair Professional TQUK Level 2 Diploma 3 12 months (excluding end point assessment) Flexible – one day per week at college or, if resources permit, in the workplace (i.e. an in-salon assessor in place) Apprentices must be employed in a suitable salon before they start their qualification. Candidates without GCSE maths or English grades 4-9 or A-C equivalent will need to undertake Functional Skills Level 1 alongside their apprenticeship and take the Level 2 test before the end point assessment. Throughout the programme the apprentice will receive expert training from highly qualified staff A qualified assessor will provide an induction and regular workplace assessments Once all on-programme assessments are complete, along with English and maths functional skills, learners will be able to go through the gateway and prepare for the end point assessment. This is a five-hour practical assessment along with oral questions assessed by an independent assessor. Full-time employment in the sector During the duration of the training the college will provide a dedicated account manager to support and guide employers through the process.

HAIR PROFESSIONAL (HAIRDRESSING) - ST0213

Role profile

Once qualified, hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create a variety of looks and colour and lighten hair for women and men. Hairdressers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

In addition, apprentices will also have the option to choose one of the following modules: • Perming hair: Effects of perms and neutralisers on the hair structure, products and equipment, contra- indications to perming hair and tests required throughout the perming and neutralising processes. • Hair relaxing treatments and techniques:

Effects of relaxers on the hair structure, products and equipment, application and development of relaxers and post relaxing products; contra-indications to relaxing hair and tests required before and throughout the relaxing and post relaxing processes. • Hair extension services: Hair growth, influencing factors and contra-indications, types of hair extensions and products, application and removal techniques, principles for blending hair.

a range of styling tools and equipment to create a look including blow drying, hair-up styles, setting and dressing, finger drying, plaiting/braiding and twisting and using additional hair. • Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques: Complete a range of woven highlights including T-section, half head.

Full head using temporary, semi-permanent, quasi-permanent, permanent colour application, and basic colour change (depth and tone) techniques.

In addition, apprentices will also have the option to choose one of the following modules: • Perming hair: Use a range of products and techniques including sectioning and winding, taking into account critical influencing factors. • Hair relaxing treatments and techniques: Use a range of products and techniques including sectioning, winding, relaxing and post relaxing products. • Hair extension services: Attach a range of extensions; cutting and finishing extensions; maintaining and removing extensions.

Role profile

Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men. Barbers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

Health and Social Care Apprenticeships

Health and social care apprenticeships are available for staff at all levels – from those just starting their career in the sector needing to gain basic skills, to those who wish to progress to work at a supervisory or management level.

Whichever qualification is chosen, apprentices will develop the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviours to enable them to provide person-centred care to clients of all ages and abilities in a range of health and care settings.

Apprentices on the Level 4 and Level 5 programmes will gain skills in business and team management, staff training and compliance.
