Monica Irelan Earns Credentialed Manager Designation

Westerville City Manager Monica Irelan has earned the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). Irelan is one of more than 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.

Eligible members must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government and demonstrate a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.

In addition to her professional membership, Irelan serves as Vice Chair at Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security and on the executive committee for the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC). She is also a certified futurist and works with Columbus Futurists.

“Monica is an intentional planner focused on the future of cities and communities,” said Westerville Mayor Diane Conley. “She understands the role of government on every level and has been an expert advisor to Westerville City Council and staff when it comes to local leadership that lifts the entire mid-Ohio region. We are proud of her work in Westerville and congratulate this exciting achievement.”

ICMA advances professional local government through leadership, management, innovation and ethics, and by increasing the proficiency of employees who serve local governments and regional entities around the world. The organization’s 13,000 members work in 27 countries.

“In Westerville, we make a concerted effort to assure staff is pursuing the credentials and certifications that serve the professional and the community,” said Irelan. “For me, ICMA is my professional association, so this has been a long-time career objective. We use these professional achievements to reflect the value and commitment we want to bring to the community, so I’m honored to meet this goal now and continue to grow with Westerville.”
