JUNE 2023 The Park Is Your Ultimate Summer Destination! WEBSTER SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM GREAT WOLF LODGE UPDATE CONCERT AT THE PARK

Parks & Rec

A LOOK INSIDE WEBSTER’S ULTIMATE SLAMMIN’ SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM

What started as a small summer camp 15 years ago is now a highly anticipated City program for many children and adolescents in Webster and surrounding areas.

With an age range from 6-12 years old, the Webster Ultimate Slammin’ Summer Camp helps enrich the lives of our youth by providing an entertaining, safe, and structured program for our community to be involved in.

The summer camp has a total of four sessions that take place between June and July each year. Recreation Manager Bryan Morgan expects up to 75 kids registered for each session.

This successful summer camp program could not be possible without the help of the camp counselors who volunteer. The camp has up to eight volunteer junior counselors and ten paid counselors who have previously volunteered.

“I reach out to teachers in the Clear Creek District who work with teaching and college career programs from the high schools,” says Bryan, “This is how I recruit many of my camp counselors.”

Aside from interactive games and educational activities, campers will also enjoy trips to Main Event, Typhoon Texas Water Park, Kemah Boardwalk, and Moody Gardens Palm Beach this year.

“I know we have something good when a parent tells me that their child is excited to come back the next year,” says Bryan, “Webster has been a great place to work in, and I look forward to every summer because I get to provide a great service to our community.”

“One of my favorite things about working with this camp after 12 years is seeing the impact on the kids as they age and being a part of that.”

“My favorite thing about summer camp is building the connections with the kids and the parents and seeing their faces light up when they come in.”

—Hailey Plant, Camp Counselor

BITE BACK: TIPS AND TRICKS FOR MOSQUITO MASTERY!

Summer is here, which means...mosquitoes. Mosquito spraying for the City has officially begun this month and will occur every Monday and Wednesday, weather permitting. Additionally, there are several other things you can do to control their population and reduce the risk of being bitten:

• Eliminate standing water around your home, as mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water.

• After the rain, empty any outdoor containers, such as buckets or flower pots, and keep gutters and bird baths clean.

• Use mosquito repellents containing DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

• Install screens on windows and doors to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

• Use a mosquito net over your bed to provide additional protection while you sleep.

By taking these simple steps, you can help control mosquito populations and enjoy the outdoors with less annoyance and fewer health risks.
