VALLEJO WEEKLY

ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER

Hello Vallejo,

What a warm welcome to September! I hope you were able to find some cool activities over Labor Day Weekend. This weekend, be sure to check out the ConFunkShun Day celebration at the waterfront. The honorary street naming event will celebrate the proud sons of Vallejo who became friends more than 50 years ago at Vallejo High School and went on to form the iconic R&B funk band. You’ll hear the Vallejo High School band play one of ConFunkShun’s hit songs and see the group’s members receive Keys to the City and proclamations from dignitaries, along with the unveiling of the “ConFunkShun St.-Honorary” sign.

After this celebration, E-40, LaRussell, Baby Bash and ConFunkShun will heat up the weekend with performances at the 2025 Mare Island Dock of Bay. Be sure to check out the flyer in this Weekly for this popular event.

Later this month, plan to take part in Fiestas Patrias, the Mexican Independence Day celebration. These are the community events that make Vallejo such a vibrant and special place to live and work!

With appreciation,

In this issue

Solano County Transit (SolTrans) has announced they have received a perfect score with zero deficiencies in its 2025 Triennial Review conducted by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). The review, mandated by Congress every three years, ensures that transit agencies across the nation comply with federal requirements in managing and spending federal funds. This means the FTA found no deficiencies in SolTrans’ management, policies, or operations—a distinction achieved by only a small percentage of agencies locally and nationwide.

“This perfect score is a testament to our staff’s professionalism, hard work, and dedication to excellence,” said Beth Kranda, SolTrans Executive Director. “We are deeply proud of this recognition, which confirms that SolTrans operates with integrity, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to serving our riders and community.”

The FTA’s triennial review is a comprehensive process that evaluates how transit agencies manage federal

funds and implement programs across 23 critical areas, including:

• Financial management

• Maintenance

• Procurement

• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance

• Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

• Safety and security

• Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation

• Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)

The FTA review team spent multiple days on site at SolTrans’ Administrative Offices and many hours reviewing documentation, policies, and procedures. The perfect outcome demonstrates SolTrans’ strong internal controls, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement.

“Receiving a perfect score is an incredible accomplishment,” said SolTrans Board of Directors Chair Terry Scott “It shows our community that SolTrans Management and Staff are not only providing reliable transit service, but also managing public resources with the highest level of accountability.”

the Block: A Color ful Success!

Nearly 400 community members came together to transform the pavement into a vibrant canvas at Vallejo’s first-ever Chalk the Block event! The day was filled with creativity, laughter, and connection as families and friends enjoyed live music from local artists, face painting, and delicious food from neighborhood vendors.

This incredible event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, the Center for Urban Excellence, and the Greater Vallejo Recreation District—thank you for helping bring this vision to life! A special shoutout goes to Jailesha Blue and Nacarre Turner, two talented interns from the Mayor’s Office, whose passion and hard work made this event a reality. Tasked with creating a community celebration, they delivered something truly memorable.

We’re already looking forward to next year—stay tuned for Chalk the Block 2026!

Big News! National Night Out Date Has Changed for Solano County

Solano County’s National Night Out is moving to Tuesday, October 7th for a cooler, more comfortable evening with fewer vacation conflicts.

Past August events were often hindered by heat and summer travel, so the Solano County Law Enforcement Administrators Association (SCLEAA) is making the shift to boost attendance and community connection. While some Northern California counties stick to August, many nationwide have already made this change for the same reasons.

Join us in Vallejo to celebrate our police, first responders, and each other. Let’s make this night unforgettable— building relationships, honoring service, and creating lasting memories together.

The City of Vallejo registration form for National Night Out 2025 is: https://cityofvallejo.formstack.com/forms/vallejo_national_night_out_event_registration

See you on October 7th!

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Caltrans will perform roadway pavement rehabilitation on approximately six miles in both northbound and southbound travel directions of State Route 29 (SR-29)/Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo to enhance the safety. Caltrans will also add new ADA accessible sidewalks, curb bulb outs, enhanced crosswalks, landscaping in various medians, marked bike lanes, and street lighting. The project will take place from Maritime Academy Dr in South Vallejo to Mini Drive in North Vallejo.

PROJECT SCHEDULE:

Construction is tentatively scheduled to start as early as mid-late July 2025 and be completed sometime in Spring 2026. All work is weather dependent.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Caltrans does not plan to completely close the route during the work. One lane in each direction on SR-29/Sonoma Boulevard will always remain open.

However, during construction, the public should expect various lane reductions, daytime construction noise and dust, various alternating temporary sidewalk closures, various temporary alternating driveway closures.

Caltrans will provide more detailed times and dates regarding construction activities as soon as information becomes available.

Caltrans appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we work to improve and maintain our state’s highways, bridges and tunnels.
