As we flip the calendar to September, football season is officially underway! Bethel, and St. Patrick-St. Vincent High Schools as they hit the field with heart, hustle, and hometown pride. Next week, the rhythm keeps rolling! On Saturday, September 6, join us at Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Park at 10 AM as we honor Vallejo’s own ConFunkShun for their legendary contributions to music and their unforgettable impact on Vallejo and the ’70s sound. Then, the celebration continues across the strait at the Mare Island Dock of the Bay Music Festival, kicking off at 1 PM. ConFunkShun will be joined by Vallejo’s musical powerhouses E-40, LaRussell, Baby Bash, and more. It’s going to be a day full of beats, community, and waterfront magic you won’t want to miss. Solano County’s Annual Coastal Cleanup Day Planned for September 20th California’s 41st annual Coastal Cleanup Day will take place in Solano County on Saturday, September 20th, and the organizers are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to clean up our waterways. The event is made possible by the cities and County of Solano, local wastewater agencies, and the Solano Resource Conservation District. This year’s theme is “The World’s First Trashure Hunt.” California Coastal Cleanup Day is the country’s largest annual volunteer event, and this year, volunteers are encouraged to join the world’s largest scavenger hunt as they clean up our local waterways; special “trash” items will be hidden at cleanup sites, and once found, they can be redeemed for valuable prizes! Solano County events are part of a statewide effort that involves more than 1,000 sites throughout California. On September 20th, agencies and volunteer captains are hosting 43 cleanup sites around Solano County from 9am until 12pm. Volunteers will work together to pick up trash and also retrieve beverage containers for recycling. If possible, volunteers should arrive at cleanup sites with work gloves, trash pickers, buckets, and their own reusable water bottles, but sites will have some of these supplies on hand as well.

Volunteers’ work will help keep pollution out of our smaller waterways, which in turn prevents pollution from reaching the ocean. The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta runs along Solano County’s southern boundary, and with its source waterways, including the Sacramento 10 River, Suisun Marsh, Carquinez Strait, and San
Pablo Bay, the Delta is responsible for more than 40% of California’s runoff water that flows into the Pacific Ocean. If it’s not picked up through events like Coastal Cleanup Day, trash in our waterways flows into the Pacific Ocean, disrupting food chains, injuring animals, and damaging our coastlines. The most common items found are cigarette butts, plastic bottles, single-use food containers and wrappers, and grocery bags. Trash collected is recorded in the world’s largest database on plastic pollution, data from which has influenced policy remedies to plastic pollution problems, like the plastic straw bans in the state. Tobacco Retail License (TRLs) Program Update The City of Vallejo has recently enacted the Tobacco Retail Licensing(TRL) Ordinance, mandating that all tobacco retailers obtain a license from the City. This ordinance aims to strictly regulate the number of tobacco retailers within the city, prohibit the sale of flavored tobacco products, and prevent the sale of tobacco products to minors. The ordinance also provides the enforcement tools needed by the City’s staff to ensure the tobacco retailers’ compliance. The application and processing window for TRL’s has officially closed. The City of Vallejo Planning Division has completed its review and processing of all submitted applications. A total of 71 licenses have been issued to eligible retailers. With the licensing phase now concluded. The City will begin transitioning to the next phase,which includes enforcement of the ordinance (this will be primarily focused on those operating without a license) and inspection of existing license holders to ensure continued compliance with all applicable local regulations. Vallejo Unites: Clean Streets, Strong Youth, Safer Communities From October 2024 through June 2025, Vallejo’s Prop 64 partners—Healthy Vallejo, Club Stride, and Advance Peace—worked together to turn prevention into practice. Their collaboration shows what happens when neighborhood cleanups, youth leadership, mentoring, and shared data are woven into one system: communities feel safer, young people gain tools to thrive, and families see hope for the future.
Healthy Vallejo: Cleanups as Prevention Healthy Vallejo led monthly cleanups and neighborhood outreach that doubled as prevention touchpoints. Between October and June, the team organized nine cleanups across the city— transforming locations like Enterprise/Solano, Spring Road, Mariposa, and Florida Street— coordinating dumpsters with Public Works, abating fire risks, and assisting seniors. Reducing blight doesn’t just improve curb appeal; it reduces the very conditions that can fuel substance use and unsafe activity, while building pride and trust.
Club Stride: Youth Voice and Life Skills

Club Stride kept youth voice at the center. In May, a Listening Session at Vallejo High School brought together 16 students, who named what helps most: life skills, fitness and arts, trusted mentors, mental-health supports, and financial literacy. Throughout the school year, Club Stride delivered eight Life Skills workshops reaching 61 youth, and school-site tabling engaged another 100–150 students. These aren’t lectures—each session is a safe space to practice prevention: stress management, boundary-setting, resisting peer pressure, problem-solving, and choosing healthy alternatives. The result is more confidence, connection, and coping—protective factors that lower risk, in line with SAMHSA’s prevention model. Warm handoffs through the Prop 64 referral network connect students to clubs, mentors, and services.

Advance Peace: Healing and Targeted Support Advance Peace works directly with youth facing the highest risks. In March, they led two traumainformed workshops with 12 young women (18–26) on marijuana use, stress, and pathways to healing. Across the year, the referral network helped ensure youth didn’t slip through the cracks—19 referrals led to 11 enrollments in supportive programs.
NEW: Resilience Network To make prevention durable, the Prop 64 partnership is building the Vallejo Resilience Network—a coordination hub that links school sites, community groups, city services, and youth leaders so supports are easier to access and sustain. This standing coalition aligns youth voice, programming, and referrals with neighborhood work, bringing together VUSD partners, community organizations, City liaisons, and youth and parent advisors. By turning great events into an ongoing system, the Resilience Network makes it simpler for families to find help, for youth to stay engaged, and for partners to scale what works.
One Ecosystem, Shared Results

The partnership mirrors the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework by assessing needs through hotspot tracking and student listening sessions, building capacity through cross-training and the Resilience Network to expand reach, planning and acting by running cleanups, Life Skills, and mentoring side-by-side with clear roles, and evaluating and sustaining progress through monthly data reviews and shared assets that keep improvements moving forward. Together, Healthy Vallejo, Club Stride, and Advance Peace—now connected through the Resilience Network—are proving that when neighborhood health meets youth leadership and targeted mentoring, prevention becomes real and lasting. Vallejo is becoming a city where seniors are supported, youth are empowered, and every block feels a little safer.

Visit Vallejo Cleans Up At Their Quarterly Beautification Day

Visit Vallejo is proud of their latest installment of its Quarterly Beautification Day, which happened last Saturday, August 23rd morning. The initiative brought together the city, residents, businesses, and volunteers in a unified effort to clean and enhance key areas of Vallejo. For this quarter’s event, the Visit Vallejo Group met at Solano Inn at 4 Mariposa Street. The target cleanup area focused on the surrounding corridor near Solano Avenue, and with attention also given to cleaning up the area surrounding the newly branded Prime Suites (formerly Super 8). Trash pickup, weed abatement, and enhancing the general esthetics were the focus of their efforts.

Past August events were often hindered by heat and summer travel, so the Solano County Law Enforcement Administrators Association (SCLEAA) is making the shift to boost attendance and community connection. While some Northern California counties stick to August, many nationwide have already made this change for the same reasons. New Website Connects Solano Residents to Aging & Disability Support

A new online resource, www.aaans.org, makes it easier for Solano County’s older and disabled adults and those who care for them to connect to vital support. The site offers user-friendly directories of free local services, from healthcare counseling and transportation to caregiver respite and legal advice. It also features downloadable resource guides in English and Spanish, plus direct connections to staff for personalized support. PROJECT OVERVIEW: Caltrans will perform roadway pavement rehabilitation on approximately six miles in both northbound and southbound travel directions of State Route 29 (SR-29)/Sonoma Boulevard in Vallejo to enhance the safety. Caltrans will also add new ADA accessible sidewalks, curb bulb outs, enhanced crosswalks, landscaping in various medians, marked bike lanes, and street lighting. The project will take place from Maritime Academy Dr in South Vallejo to Mini Drive in North Vallejo. PROJECT SCHEDULE: Construction is tentatively scheduled to start as early as mid-late July 2025 and be completed sometime in Spring 2026. All work is weather dependent. WHAT TO EXPECT: Caltrans does not plan to completely close the route during the work. One lane in each direction on SR-29/Sonoma Boulevard will always remain open. However, during construction, the public should expect various lane reductions, daytime construction noise and dust, various alternating temporary sidewalk closures, various temporary alternating driveway closures. Caltrans will provide more detailed times and dates regarding construction activities as soon as information becomes available. Caltrans appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as we work to improve and maintain our state’s highways, bridges and 26 tunnels.

Exciting Improvements Ahead: Mare Island Causeway Bridge Repairs Set to Begin!

Essential upgrades to the Mare Island Causeway Bridge are on the way! What to Expect: August 4 – September 30, 2025 • Weekdays (Monday–Friday): One-lane traffic from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with traffic control provided by onsite flaggers. • Weekends: The bridge will remain FULLY open with one lane in each direction. October 1 – December 31, 2025 • The bridge will operate under a 24/7 reversible one-lane traffic configuration, controlled by automated timed signals. Please note: This reversible one-lane setup is expected to continue into most of 2026 to support ongoing construction and safety monitoring. The project is expected to run for approximately 18 months, with an anticipated completion date of January 5, 2027. Let’s build the future—together!
