Active Adult Senior Program

Dates: Mondays - Fridays, Year-round for ESRC; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Year-round for CMRC

Age: 55+ Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Cost: Free with annual membership

This program offers an assortment of activities, including social, cultural, physical, instructional, health & wellness and crafts. Limited transportation is provided based on availability. Lunch is served daily to qualified participants (age 60+ enrolled in the program) for a $2 donation.

Learn to Play Pinochle

Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays, May 29 - June 9 Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Ages: 55+ Cost: Free with active annual membership Location: ESRC Don’t be intimidated by this fun card game. Join us for these free lessons.

Senior Bingo Bash

May is Older Americans Month and we’re celebrating with a fun-filled day of bingo! Prizes will be awarded. Registration is required as space is limited.

Senior Fish Fry

Dates: Wednesday, June 7 Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Ages: 55+ Cost: $10 per person Location: Sleepy Hole Park

Join us for a good old-fashioned fish fry! You will enjoy food, door prizes, outdoor games and musical entertainment. Registration is required.

Jazz on the Lawn

Dates: Thursday, August 17 Time: 5:00 - 7:00 PM Ages: 55+ Cost: Free with active annual membership Location: Planter’s Club

Grab your lawn chair for an evening of jazz on the lawn at the Planter’s Club. Light refreshments will be available. Registration is required.

Creating with Resin

Dates: Tuesday & Wednesday, August 15 & 16

Time: 10 AM - 12 PM Ages: 55+ Cost: Free with active annual recreation center membership Location: Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts

Tap into your creativity while you learn to create beautiful masterpieces with resin. These interactive classes will provide seniors the opportunity to socialize with one another while learning a new skill. The classes are in partnership with Tidewater Arts Outreach and space is limited. All supplies will be provided.

Senior Aerobics

Date: Tuesdays & Thursdays, Year-round Time: 10 - 11 AM Age: 55+ Cost: $12 for 6 weeks; $2 drop-in rate Location: ESRC

Calling all active adults! This class can be completed from a chair or while standing. Participants will gain fitness knowledge, get a great strength and endurance workout, and get to know Mrs. Betty who has been teaching the class more than 40 years!

Bike-In Movie featuring The Goonies (PG)

TGIF Concert Series

Date: Fridays Time: 6:00 - 9:30 PM Ages: All Cost: Free Kick back after a long week at one of our many summer concerts! Food vendors will be on-site. Adult beverages will be available for purchase for those 21+, with valid ID. Make sure to bring a blanket or chair and your dancing shoes!

Stars & Stripes Spectacular

Date: Tuesday, July 4 Time: 5:30 - 9:30 PM Ages: All Cost: Free Location: Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina To celebrate the Fourth of July we’ll fill the air with music and then fireworks! Rocky 7 will take the stage from 6 - 9 PM. There will be food, vendors, activities, games and more. Fireworks will begin at 9PM and light up the sky over the Nansemond River. Bring a blanket or chair for this festive event.

Swim Lessons

Dates: Mondays - Thursdays Cost: $35

Swim lessons for all ages and abilities. Swimmers will develop good habits in, on, and near water; become comfortable in the water; learn new strokes and become stronger, safer swimmers. Each session is twoweeks long. Friday’s are make-up days, as necessary. Participants will need to bring a swimsuit, goggles, and a towel.

Beginners (Ages: 5 - 11)

Your child will learn to enter and exit the pool, pool rules and safety, blowing bubbles, floating, looking and retrieving objects, and much, much more!

Water Aerobics

This low-impact class will be easy on your joints and a great way to enjoy the water!

Group Swim

Drool in the Pool

Ages: 18+ Cost: Free with Parks & Recreation Dog Park membership (Dog Park memberships are $10 per dog and all pets must be spayed/neutered and have proof of vaccination and City dog license.)

Celebrate the end of summer with your four-legged friends. Let them enjoy a swim and play off-leash.
