MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
With the new year here, I invite you to discover all that Suffolk has to offer this winter and early spring. The weather might be cool, but there are plenty of opportunities to come together through festivals, markets, art, and special events that bring our community to life.
Starting in February, the Suffolk Farmers Market kicks off with fresh local flavors and handcrafted treasures. Across Suffolk, the arts come alive with performances, exhibits, and workshops inviting you to explore the heart and soul of our community.
In March, look forward to the 12th Annual Suffolk Author’s Festival and Eggstravaganza. Then in April, enjoy the Earth and Arts Festival, a vibrant celebration of creativity and sustainability featuring local artists, environmental workshops, live performances, and family-friendly activities that highlight our community’s connection to nature and the arts. Also, in April, enjoy a Family Escape Room event, a fun way to engage with loved ones.
These events are just a small taste of the many great programs waiting for you inside this packed Program Guide. Suffolk Parks & Recreation, Suffolk Tourism, and the Suffolk Public Library offer so many ways to inspire joy and connection in our community.
There are countless ways to enjoy Suffolk this season. Take a walk in one of our parks, join a storytime or craft program at the library, or attend a festival or special event. No matter how you choose to spend your time, there’s something for everyone.

Volunteers and interns are a valuable asset to the community and assist us in creating quality programs, activities and events and help our community shine. From athletic coaching to community clean-ups - there is something for everyone!
School clubs, civic groups, scouts, individuals and interns are welcome. Volunteers and interns receive valuable training and job experience, socialization, a great volunteer environment, career enhancement, recognition, and the opportunity to meet and assist others. With a variety of volunteer options to choose from, you can find something for your group, your family or just yourself.

GREAT SUFFOLK CLEANUP
Keep Suffolk Beautiful is excited to announce the 2026 Great Suffolk Cleanup, taking place citywide on March 27 and 28. This annual event unites individuals, families, businesses, and civic groups in an effort to reduce litter and enhance the natural beauty of our city.
In 2025, 2,033 volunteers collected 2,355 bags of litter and 597 tires — removing over 72,000 pounds of debris We need you to join us and make an even bigger impact this year! Together, we can keep Suffolk beautiful.
Gloves, bags, safety vests, and litter grabbers will be provided to all participating groups. If March 27 or 28 do not work, groups may choose an alternate date that fits their schedules. Gather your friends, family, or coworkers and help keep Suffolk clean and green! Individuals and groups are encouraged to sign up at www.suffolkva.us/cleanup.

SUFFOLK EARTH & ARTS FESTIVAL
Get ready for the 2026 Suffolk Earth and Arts Festival — Hampton Roads’ premier shopping and arts celebration! Join us on April 25, 2026, from 10 AM to 4 PM in historic Downtown Suffolk. Hosted by Keep Suffolk Beautiful and the Suffolk Art League, this one-of-a-kind event will feature up to 140 local vendors, including artisans, makers, growers, and community outreach groups.
Explore unique handmade goods, enjoy fresh local produce, and experience the best of our creative community. The festival also offers live music from six acts, a wide selection of food vendors, a relaxing beer garden, and free family-friendly activities - and don’t miss the Suffolk Master Gardeners’ annual plant sale!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY RIVER CLEANUP
Keep Suffolk Beautiful invites residents to join the 2026 St. Patrick’s River Day Cleanup, a land and water-based effort taking place at Constant’s Wharf on March 14, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM. Volunteers can register on-site, and all cleanup supplies will be provided. Participants with kayaks or canoes are encouraged to bring them to help collect litter along the Nansemond River, making a meaningful impact on the health of this vital waterway. Together, we can celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by giving back to our community and keeping Suffolk clean and green. At Suffolk Parks & Recreation our mission is to create memorable experiences through a culture of fun and customer service excellence.
We offer a variety of special events, outdoor spaces, trails, and community programs for residents and visitors. The City features numerous parks with scenic water views, boat launches, fishing piers, and more. This park offers a boat ramp, three picnic shelters, tennis and pickleball courts, a stage, disc golf course, trails, fishing pier, inclusive playground, and skate park.
Lake Meade Park

This park offers a dog park, skate park, lake view walking trail, inclusive playground, and the Howard Mast Tennis Complex.
Constant’s Wharf Park & Marina

This park features an 18-slip marina and seasonal rentable kayaks. Reservations for marina slips must be made 24 hours in advance. Call 757- 514-7250 to reserve.
Lone Star Lakes Park
401 Kings Hwy.
This park a playground, fishing pier, 4-miles of trails, and shoreline fishing areas surrounding 11 lakes. Boats must be registered and can only use an electric motor of 15K horsepower or less. Gas outboard motors are not permitted.

Downtown Festival Park, situated in the heart of downtown Suffolk, features a beautiful outdoor green space that hosts concerts and other outdoor events.
Sleepy Hole Park

This park offers 8 picnic shelters, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe courts, a playground, trails, children’s learning garden, and fishing pier with a kayak launch and seasonal rentable kayaks.

Suffolk Parks & Recreation offers rental spaces at all of our Recreation Facilities. For details on spaces available and the reservation process, contact the center of interest directly. A $150 refundable deposit and a $25 non-refundable application fee is required for processing each application. Application, application fee, and deposit must be received a minimum of 30 calendar days before the rental date requested.

Park operating hours are dawn to dusk. Cancellation of a shelter rental constitutes a loss of the reservation fee with the exception of severe weather (i.e. hurricane, northeastern storm), in which case the date of use can be rescheduled after the initial rental date.

Kid Zone

Start your cinematic journey at The Young Filmmakers Academy! Dive into crafting your own creative masterpiece and explore the art of storytelling, cinematography, and editing. Participants will have the opportunity to attend film-themed field trips and create their own film project.

Be a part of the region's longest-running photography exhibition! Open to all professional and amateur photographers. All styles of photography in which traditional and digital processes were integral to the creation of the work will be accepted. Photographs must be originals executed and altered by the photographer only.
Meet for arts and crafts projects geared toward adults with developmental disabilities. Registration is required. Caretakers/aides need not register, but should be present if needed.
Fiber Club

Teens are invited to join this 4-week introduction to sewing. We'll learn the basics of hand-sewing, how to personalize clothing, and how to use a sewing machine. Each student will create their own pair of cozy lounge pants during the class.

Poets, writers, musicians, spoken word, and more are welcome! Present your own original works or favorites by others. Not a writer or musician? Come listen to others, enjoy a slice of pizza, and visit the Gallery in a relaxed and open environment.
Plein Air Drawing

Visit scenic Lone Star Lakes Park and spend two hours sketching in various locations. Transportation between the Suffolk Art Gallery and Lone Star Lakes Park will be provided. Some drawing materials will be available, but you must bring your own sketchbook or drawing surface. We encourage you to bring a portable chair and your own materials. Note: this is not a class.

This 4-week class is an introduction to sewing. We'll learn the basics of hand-sewing, how to personalize clothing, and how to use a sewing machine. Each student will create their own scrap lap quilt during the class and all materials are provided.
Beginner Blacksmithing: BBQ Set

Craft a custom BBQ set (meat flipper with a bottle opener, skewer with a twisted handle, and two-prong fork) with John DePalma and John Hutchings of the Tidewater Blacksmith Guild. Learn blacksmithing fundamentals including safety, fire management, basic forging skills of drawing out, tapering, twisting and bending, and leave with a set of tools just in time for BBQ season.
TENNIS
In partnership with Western Tidewater Tennis Association (WTTA), Suffolk Parks & Recreation offers youth and adults tennis lessons, clinics, camps and advanced drill and play. To participate, an account must be created with USTA.com. Once an account is created, visit playtennis.utsa.com/westerntidewatertennisassociation to register and secure a required WTTA membership ($25/year). T-Ball is an eight-week league and an excellent opportunity for baseball beginners.
Adult Coed Softball

This is an eight-week league with games twice per week. Make-up games will occur on Tuesdays. A tournament will be held after the regular season.
Adult Basketball

This is a nine-week league with games on Wednesday nights. A tournament will be held after the regular season. Prizes will be given to our lucky winners.
Game and eat teen trip to Sandbox, a virtual reality gaming venue. After diving into the virtual world come back to reality for a social gathering with delicious food.
Looking for a cozy space to relax, create, and connect? Crochet & Connect is a community program that brings together participants of all ages to buddy up and enjoy the art of crocheting. Instruction not provided.

GREAT DISMAL SWAMP NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. Despite its foreboding moniker, the Great Dismal Swamp is one of few remaining American wilderness and the largest intact remnant of a vast habitat that once covered more than one million acres of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. This nature preserve encompasses over 113,000 acres where visitors can enjoy history, mystery, lore and wildlife observation including Black Bears, river otters, rare plants, 200 species of birds, Bobcats, and more.

The Great Dismal Swamp became the first national wildlife refuge designated as a site on the National Underground Network to Freedom. The Dismal Swamp maroon history is featured on this 75-minute guided tour of the Underground Railroad Pavilion built to showcase the swamp’s role for those seeking freedom.

The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is a wonderful place to connect with nature, with the Washington Ditch Trail the most often-recommended trail for hiking and biking. Enjoy a guided walk as you learn about the flora, fauna, wildlife, and history that abound in this 111,000-acre wilderness.

There will be two sittings for each event: 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM. Space is limited (20 girls per sitting) and reservations are required. Donations welcome.
