SOUTH EL MONTE NEWS • NOVEMBER 2021

CITY OF SOUTH EL MONTE NEW WASTE, RECYCLING, AND ORGANICS THREE-CONTAINER PROGRAM WHAT IS CHANGING? Athens Services is advancing South El Monte’s waste and recycling program. Starting January 1, 2022 residential customers will be transitioning from a manual hand-tossed mixed-waste and green waste collection program, to a source-separated waste, recycling, and organics program. This means that residential customers will need to sort their waste, recycling, and organics into three containers for pickup. Athens Services and South El Monte are partnering to change the City’s waste and recycling program to stay in compliance with California recycling laws.

BLUE CART = RECYCLE

GREEN CART = ORGANICS

BLACK CART = WASTE

ENHANCED RECYCLING Increased recycling and reduced landfill waste through source separation

NEW CONTAINERS Residents will receive three new 96-gallon containers (other cart size options available upon request)

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE

• Green Waste • Food Scraps • Food-Soiled Paper

• Unusable clothing & fabric • Cacti & succulents • Cigarette butts • Diapers • Pet waste
