Comprehensive Zoning Code Update

WHAT IS THE ZONING CODE UPDATE?

A Zoning Code serves as a series of regulations and standards for all land within a city and vary depending on the particular zone that each piece of property falls under. It provides guidance on issues such as land use, development standards, landscaping, and signage. Zoning Codes are important frameworks that guide the look and feel of our cities and ensure development enhances our communities and meets our needs.

WHY UPDATE THE ZONING CODE?

The City of South El Monte is updating the Zoning Code to implement pro-housing programs and policies and to comply with Federal and State laws. The update is also designed to make the Zoning Code more user-friendly and will include a zoning handbook with photos, diagrams, and clear explanations. This project will make procedural and design-focused improvements to the Zoning Code and will not involve any new rezoning. It is focused on providing pathways to alleviating

by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).
