creating a Safety and Environmental Justice Element. The availability of housing is a matter of vital statewide importance and the attainment of decent housing and a suitable living environment for all Californians is a priority of the highest order, and the Housing Element seeks to attain that. The goal of the Safety Element is to reduce the potential short and long-term risk of death, injuries, property damage, and economic and social dislocation resulting from fires, floods, droughts, earthquakes, landslides, climate change, and other hazards. Environmental Justice attempts to identify objectives and policies to reduce the unique or compounded health risks in disadvantaged communities including the reduction of pollution exposure, the improvement of air quality, and the promotion of public facilities, food access, safe and sanitary homes, and physical activity. This process will seek to engage stakeholders within the City including residents, businesses, and community groups for input on these elements in the coming eight months.

City of South El Monte In an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve, the City of South El Monte provided no-cost COVID-19 testing to the community last month. The City in partnership with Transcend Health held a drive-thru testing site at the Community Center for residents and employees.
