HOSTS VACCINE CLINICS TO STOP THE SPREAD OF COVID-19 As part of the City of South El Monte efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, it partnered with health agencies and organizations to host vaccine clinics for those eligible to receive including seniors 65+ and community members at the South El Monte Community Center. Although South El Monte has not been hit hard during the pandemic unlike our neighboring cities, COVID-19 has affected our community as well. As of March 21, the Los Angeles County Department of Health has reported 3,383 COVID-19 cases and 61deaths in South El Monte since the pandemic began. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the priority of the City of South El Monte has been helping our seniors stay safe at home. Through a coordinated effort between the City of South El Monte, Curative, and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, a vaccine clinic specifically for seniors 65 and older was held on March 15. “The senior vaccine clinic was part of City of South El Monte leaders and staff ongoing efforts to keep our community’s most vulnerable safe and healthy during the pandemic,” said one City Official. “It’s our goal that the vaccines will provide hope and a step towards normality for them. Many of our seniors have been isolated from family and friends for over a year.”
The City of South El Monte is extremely grateful to all its partners who helped provide vaccines in our community. It’s a step to helping end the pandemic and returning back to our normal lives. Residents are highly encouraged to visit the LA County’s website at vaccinateLACounty.com or our City website at cityofsouthelmonte.org for updates about COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

To expand vaccine access in South El Monte for our community members, the City of South El Monte also teamed up with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Community Advisory Council and the Center for Family Health & Education to host a larger scale vaccine clinic on March 18. The clinic was opened to anyone eligible according to LA County guidelines such as 65 and older, and workers in healthcare, emergency services, food and agriculture, and education and childcare as well as individuals with underlying high-risk health conditions. The clinic provided 758 vaccines.
