Every July, the nation comes together to celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month, an initiative spearheaded by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) since 1985

The City of South El Monte is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating our parks & recreation team who plan our community events such as the Night Markets, Movies in the Park, and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, to name a few In addition to community events, our parks and recreation staff coordinate community programs like our day camps, after school programs, sports leagues, and aquatic programs

This month-long celebration underscores the critical role that parks and recreation play in fostering a sense of belonging in their community by providing welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces to build meaningful connections
