On Thursday, November 23, 2023 in observance of Thanksgiving Day. There will be no street sweeping or trash collection services.
South El Monte and KB Home Breaks Ground on New Starlite Community The City of South El Monte and KB Home hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at the homebuilder’s new Starlite Community. KB Home plans to construct over 200 three-story, single-family homes and townhomes as well as family-friendly amenities, including a clubhouse and pool. The homes will come in a variety of architectural styles, including Spanish Colonial Revival and Craftsman. KB Home recently acquired the 13.5-acre property, which was once the site of the Starlite Drive-in movie theater that ceased operations approximately 30 years ago. While most elements of the former drive-in have long been demolished, the theatre’s 72-year-old marquee remains, and is to be maintained and restored as part of the project.

NOTICE OF VACANCY TO SERVE AS A COMMISSIONER ON ONE OF THE VARIOUS COMMISSIONS The City of South El Monte is accepting applications from interested residents wishing to serve on a City Advisory Commission. Applications are now being accepted from October 31st through Thursday, November 30, 2023, by 5:30 p.m. All positions subject to a Live Scan. Terms for the following commissions end December 31, 2024: •
Advancement for Women and Girls Commission – Five (5) positions including one senior (55 and over) and one youth (between the ages of 16-17). The Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council on all matters pertaining to advancement of women and girls.

Community Services Commission – Five (5) positions - (2 of the members must be at least 60 years of age and 1 member between the ages of 1 6 - 2 1 ). The Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council on all matters pertaining to the City’s parks and recreation services, senior programs, and special events.

Patriotic Commission – Five (5) positions The Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to patriotism and the civic recognition of both active and veteran military personnel. Planning Commission – Five (5) positions The Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council on all matters pertaining to community development.
NOTE: You must be a South El Monte resident to be considered, once appointed, someone from Human Resources will contact you regarding the Live Scan. City employees are not eligible to serve on commissions. Commission applications may be obtained Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the Reception Desk, City Hall, 1415 Santa Anita Avenue, South El Monte or on the city’s website at https://www.cityofsouthelmonte.org/241/City-Commissions. Holiday Home Decorating Contest

The annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest is here! Residents are encouraged to show their holiday spirit by displaying their festive decorations and lights. There is no registration or cost required to participate, but if you would like to ensure your home gets judged please email rec@soelmonte.org with your full name, address, and phone number. Only residences within the City of South El Monte are eligible. Judging will be based on holiday-themed decor on the exterior of a property. Contest judging will take place from December 18th - December 21st from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Judges will tour the entire city looking for the most festive properties. Photos of winning homes will be posted on the City of South El Monte’s social media platforms.
