CITY CLERK
WHYSHOULDIATTENDACITYCOUNCILMEETING?
Council Meetings are where decisions are made that impact the City of Sebastian. The Sebastian City Council consists of five Council Members, two of whom the Council chooses to be the Mayor and Vice Mayor. Council meetings fall into two categories.
There are several types of council meetings: Regular legislative meetings, which run according to a planned schedule, and non-legislative meetings, such as workshops, public hearings, or organizational meetings.
In Florida, all government business is to be conducted “in the sunshine.” This means that the meetings of any agencies or authority of a city government are open to the public. Decisions made are not binding unless they are openly discussed in a meeting that is open to the public.
In Sebastian, we strive to make city residents feel welcome to attend all city council meetings and meetings of the various boards and committees. If you live in Sebastian, this is a way to use your voice and make this a better place to live. As a City, we want to value all of our residents, and we hope you will consider coming to a meeting soon You can find upcoming city council meetings in the schedule on the following pages.
