Bob Joyce, Economic Development Executive Director, was named the North Carolina Economic Developer of the Year by the North Carolina Economic Developers Association.

♦ Recognized as a 2020 Top Micropolitan Area, placing fifth in the United States, according to Site Selection Magazine. A micropolitan community is defined as having a population between 10,000 and 49,999. Sanford was the highest ranked community in North Carolina.

♦ Awarded a $5,000 grant from Duke Energy for the City of Sanford’s newly formed Equity Taskforce Initiative, which was created to examine and work to dismantle disparities in the lives of Sanford residents.

♦ Awarded $1,000 grant from the Honoring Emergency/First Responders Opportunity (HERO) Project by the Rotary Clubs of Sanford and Jonesboro for the Sanford Fire Department to purchase a radio battery conditioner/analyzer.

♦ Named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the ninth consecutive year.
