LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

28 FEB 2026 | FROM 12PM – 9PM |

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR

Welcome

The City of Ryde is sending Lunar New Year greetings as we welcome the Year of the Horse!

Held annually in Eastwood, Lunar New Year celebrates the over 4,000 year tradition which is celebrated within many Asian cultures and is based on the cycles of the moon. There are four elements to the New Year festivities, starting a week out with Little Year, followed by a day of memorial and prayer, then New Year’s Eve itself, and concluding with a day of reuniting and gift giving.

This year, the Festival is getting even bigger! We’re bringing Railway Parade in Koreatown to life from 12 noon to 5pm. This expansion is made possible with the support of the NSW Government’s Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW. Eastwood Oval will be buzzing from 4pm to 9pm finishing with a fireworks spectacular!

Year of the Horse

This year we celebrate the Fire Horse. Zodiac animals get an element because they are part of the Chinese astrological system, which combines a 12‑year animal cycle with a 60‑year cycle of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). Characteristics of the Fire Horse include being confident, independent, enthusiastic and ambitious.

Parking is limited during the Festival – consider leaving the car at home and use public transport. Plan your trip at transportnsw.info or ryde.events/GettingtoLNY
