The first twelve years of my career were spent teaching in middle and high schools across the Southeast. Combined with my own years as a student, August still brings familiar feelings: the smell of new pencils, fresh binders, the hint of fall in the air, and the excitement of a new beginning. Those same feelings return each fall semester with Lifelong Learning. While our spring semesters may not end with graduations or promotions to the next grade level, the arrival of August always signals a fresh start and new opportunities for growth and discovery.
This academic year also brings exciting new beginnings for LL@RH as we continue working to expand both our class offerings and our reach within the community. For the first time, we are offering a small selection of evening classes. Lifelong learning is not only valuable for those who are retired, but for individuals at every stage of life. While programs like ours traditionally serve adults ages 55 and older, we also want to better support those within that age group who are still working. I encourage you to take note of the evening offerings and help spread the word to friends, neighbors, or others who may now find it easier to participate.
As with every semester, I am grateful to welcome back many of our loyal instructors who generously share their time, talents and expertise. At the same time, I am excited to introduce new instructors whose fresh perspectives and unique classes continue to enrich the program. This catalog is filled with opportunities, information, and experiences designed to make this semester meaningful and engaging. I encourage you to read through it carefully and discover all that awaits you in another exciting season of learning and community at LL@RH.
Warmly,
Krista Hayes
Lifelong Learning Coordinator, City of Rock Hill PRT
