DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE Welcome to summer time in the beautiful Truckee Meadows.

The City of Reno City Council strives for everyone to have easy access to park and recreation opportunities in sustainable communities.

In Reno, parks and recreation enhances the quality of life for all people and we are dedicated to providing the services you’ll find in this brochure.

Sierra Kids is a quality recreational enrichment program for children who need a safe, supervised environment before and after school. Beginner Bike Camp Ages 6-12 | $100 (Includes Vacation Station Fee) June 24-28 | July 15-19 Taught by the Kiwani's Bike Program League certified instructors. BELLY DANCE

EMNECC | 334-2262 Beginner Levels I & Beyond Ages 13+ | Wednesday 6-7:30pm $60 per session Learn the basic movements and techniques of oriental dance (Raks Sharki) during these graceful art-of-belly-dancing classes. It is important to learn basic foundation techniques before progressing to advanced classes. No prior experience is needed.

Intermediate: Troupe Jasmine Ages 13+ | Thursday 6-7:15pm $60 per session This class focuses on techniques, combinations, improvisations and expressive performance skills. With skills learned in the beginner classes, you will learn how to apply those skills to develop your own style, while continuing to work within a group.

This program is for all levels of ability. Our referees concentrate on communicating rules and fouls to the players during game play.

Lap swimmers are welcome to use any available equipment offered at each aquatics facility. Lap lanes may be limited; participants are encouraged to practice proper lane etiquette.

Spring: EMNECC Summer: EMNECC | Idlewild Ages 3-5 Instruction begins with basic physical and mental adjustment, basic safety and water skills using play as the primary form of teaching.

EMNECC | Northwest Buoyancy takes the impact off leg joints allowing exercises to improve muscular strength, balance and fitness levels.

Get high-impact results from a low-impact water workout.

LIFEGUARD CLASSES

Northwest Ages 16+ Lifeguards are trained to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water.

Core content includes: Water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, First Aid, CPR and AED, and breathing and cardiac emergencies.

Military Sports Camp Sept 9-13, 2019 The City of Reno will host 15 disabled veterans and injured service members with their spouse/ guest for a multi-day event. Please note that these amenities are not reserved as part of a picnic shelter permit. Playgrounds, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and skate parks are normally open to the public at large. NEW, RENOVATED OR EXPANDED PARKS Cyan Park: The new park plan is available on the City's website.

Construction will begin this fall for a summer 2020 opening.

Las Brisas Skate Park: Construction of a new 10,000 square foot skate park will start and be completed this summer.

Mayor's/McAlinden Parks: Council approved a new master plan, which is available on the City's website. Staff is currently working on plans for the first phase of construction, primarily directed at improvements to the ballfields. Construction will begin fall 2019 for a summer 2020 opening.

Miguel Ribera Park Restroom: Construction of a permanent restroom building will start and be completed this summer. The restroom will be located adjacent to the picnic shelter area.

Sierra Vista Park: Construction of a new automatic entry gate will occur this spring. The non-profit Biggest Little Trails Stewardship group will also construct mountain bike trails, including installation of agility features for biking skills.

Somersett West Park: Construction of this 5.5 acre park will begin summer 2019 and be completed in spring 2020.

Jamaica Park

PARK RENOVATIONS: Wilkinson Park: The tennis court will be rebuilt and reconfigured this summer into a multi-sport court with basketball, pickleball and foursquare/hopscotch courts.

Yori Park: The splash pad surface will be rebuilt this spring.

IDLEWILD TRAIN HOURS: The train will open daily from 11am - 3pm during WCSD spring break. After that, it will be open Sat & Sun from 11am - 3pm until Memorial Day Weekend when regular hours begin.

Regular hours starting Memorial Day weekend are Tue - Fri and Holidays from 11am - 3pm, Sat & Sun from 11am - 6pm.

Each shelter can accommodate 50-200 people and comes with picnic tables and a barbecue. Please note that these amenities are not reserved as part of a picnic shelter permit. Playgrounds, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, and skate parks are normally open to the public at large.

A beer and wine permit is required ($55) if these beverages will be consumed at your event.

A special event permit is required for the following: (1) Any planned gathering of 75 or more people for purposes of assembling or traveling in an organized manner on any street, park or other public property; or (2) Any planned activity conducted by a person for a common or collective use, purpose or benefit which directly or indirectly involves the use of, and has an impact on, city street(s), park(s) or other public property or facilities which reasonably requires city management, regulation or resources to protect the health, safety, welfare or property of the city or its residents, coordinate multiple uses of public property, control traffic or address other substantial governmental interests at or around the activity.

Examples of special events include, but are not limited to: (a) Parades (b) Street fairs and festivals (c) Live commercial music events (d) Athletic or sporting events (e.g., races, runs) (e) Circuses and carnivals (f) Community celebrations and observances (g) Commercial shows, trade shows, and business promotions (h) Commercial, promotional or fund-raising activities.
