Jesus is the Bread of Life

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. -John 6: 38 - 40

Children’s Church Reaches Record Attendance

Children’s Church Reaches Record Attendance Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many? - John 6:9

O

One of the most powerful lessons from the story of Jesus feeding 5000 is the oftenoverlooked fact that the five loaves and two fish came from a boy. The boy gives over his humble meal and in doing so is used by the Lord to bless not only the 5000, but multitudes more as his act is recounted throughout the ages.

The City of Praise understands fully that the life of our ministry will continue to flourish because we have an active and vital spiritual training plan for our children. The Lord has blessed us by providing a chapel adjacent to the Metro Points Hotel. This location provides a fun, safe and spiritual environment for us to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our youth. We meet our children where they are by providing unique tools for outreach, from puppet shows to balloon art. Everything is designed to provide spiritual nourishment that will allow them to grow into spiritually mature followers of Christ.

Kids in the Kitchen Baking Barley Loaves

Kids in the Kitchen Baking Barley Loaves

I

by Lions Roar Staff n 2006 the Food and Drug Administration began allowing foods containing barley to share that they reduced the risk of coronary heart disease. Specifically, whole grain barley and dry milled barley products such as flakes, grits, flour, and pearled barley, which provide at least 0.75 grams of soluble fiber per serving, may bear the claim.

Coronary heart disease claims nearly half a million lives a year. High total cholesterol levels and high levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol are known to increase one’s risk for heart disease, so consumers are encouraged to keep these levels as low as possible. Scientific evidence indicates that including barley in a healthy diet can help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by lowering LDL and total cholesterol levels. We hope that you will take time this month to enjoy this fun family activity. Please send pictures of your family and your homemade barley loaves. Photos will be shared in the June issue of Lion’s Roar.

Barley Loaves

Ingredients: 1 packet of yeast 1 egg, beaten 1/2 cup lukewarm water 2 Tbs. olive oil 2 Tbs. honey 2 cups barley ground barley flour (For another healthy alternative replace barley flour with a gluten free flour blend) 1/2 tsp. salt Directions: Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with honey. Add salt, egg and oil. Stir in flour. Flour a surface and knead for 3 minutes. Place dough in greased bowl and cover with a fresh towel. Let it stand in a warm place for 1.5 hours. You will notice the dough slightly rise. Take the dough and knead the dough for 3 minutes. Now it’s time for little hands to help. The Kids in the Kitchen can shape the dough into five loaves. Place the loaves on a lightly greased baking sheet, cover and let stand for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until your lovely loaves are golden brown. Remove the loaves to a cooling rack and wrap in fresh towel for 5 minutes. Serve and ENJOY!
