We are dedicating this May 2013 issue of the Lion’s Roar to the amazing, loving, courageous, smart and God-fearing mothers of The JANUARY 2011 City of Praise.

Moms do some heavy lifting to keep their families running smoothly.

The average mom will have changed 7,300 diapers by the time her baby turns two. Moms do 88% of the household laundry, about 330 loads a year. For being the nine-month home to a bundle-of-joy, moms gain on average 30 pounds. Fifty-five percent of moms with kids under age one work outside of the home. Working Moms spend 13 hours a day working at their job and at home.

This ministry does not ever want to take mothers for granted. We understand the important role that they have played throughout the history of world in advancing The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We understand the important role they play in nurturing and protecting their families and we understand the important role they play in the life of The City of Praise Family Ministries.

The Hand That Rocks

There is an old saying, “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.� As mothers, we have an amazing influence over the lives of our children and consequently the future of our world. The Holy Scripture clearly gives examples of how mothers and mother figures have used this power for evil and used this power for good.

As we look to these Biblical mothers, we have to decide how will we use our mother power. Consider this. Eighty to Eighty-five percent of all household decisions are made by mothers. This statistic includes consumer purchases from automobiles to healthcare. As Christian, m o t h e r s sometimes we only chose to measure our influence and

impact on our children’s lives, by patting ourselves on the back because our children are in church. Please let me be clear. I believe it is vital that both mothers and fathers impress upon their children the importance of worshipping in the house of the Lord.

However, the influence that you have over the food you bring into your home, the arts and entertainment that your children consume and even the very clothes on their backs impacts their lives every single day.

These early influences are long-term influences.

We must keep our eyes on the big and small influences. So our decisions to promote healthy eating habits, positive television choices and wholesome radio listening are significant investments in the lives of our children. We must also remember that they are watching us and patterning their choices after the choices that we make in our own lives.

Grand Gift Ideas for Mom

by Lions Roar Staff Traditional Classics Breakfast In Bed – Surprise Mom with breakfast in bed. Keep it simple and healthy. Low fat vanilla yogurt, topped with granola. Accent the breakfast with fresh fruit, flowers and a lovely handwritten note.

A Love Letter – You will probably give your mom a shout out in social media, but what about taking time to write her a real old fashioned letter? Social media shout outs are nice, and a Mother’s Day card is considerate, but a letter written on stationary and sent through the United States mail is a treasure from days past.

Creative Classic Redeemable Coupon – Give Mom coupons to redeem throughout the year. The coupons could be simple and sweet. One could offer one day free from cooking dinner or one clean house from top to bottom.

Modern Classic Stay-cation – Mom may not have time for a far off get-a-way, but a weekend stay-cation may be just what she needs. For Mom’s stay-cation equip her room with fresh flowers, her favorite treats, movies and novels. Mom stays home and all noise and stress stay away.

Momma Y’s Tips Ages 2-6 Eye contact is essential and critical when communicating with your children of any age. Sit down or bend down to your child’s level so you don’t appear to be a hovering giant. This eliminates the intimidation factor.

Ages 13-18 Time is our Greatest Gift from God; therefore, take full advantage of moments with your teen during car trips, standing in line at the bookstore or market, etc. These are ideal times to talk, but more importantly to listen to your teen.
