How to Recycle Used Motor Oil
Cómo Reciclar el Aceite de Motor Usado
Did you know that used motor oil never wears out? It just gets dirty and can be recycled, cleaned, and used again. Recycling used motor oil conserves a natural resource (oil) and is good for the environment. Motor oil poured onto the ground or into storm drains, or tossed into trash cans (even in a sealed container) can contaminate and pollute the soil, groundwater, streams, and rivers – plus, it's illegal. If you change your own oil in your vehicles, you are legally required to recycle the used motor oil. Recycling the oil also protects the environment and conserves a valuable resource. That's a winning combination. In Paramount there are two ways to recycle used oil: You can drop off your used oil and filters at two convenient Certified Collection Centers. (It’s a good idea to call before taking oil and filters to the listed centers.) They are:

Al reciclar el aceite de motor usado se conserva un recurso natural (el aceite) y se beneficia al medio ambiente. El aceite de motor vaciado al suelo ó a los desagües, ó tirado en los contenedores de basura (aunque esté en un recipiente sellado) puede contaminar la tierra, las aguas subterráneas, los arroyos, y los ríos—y además, es ilegal. Si cambia el aceite de sus propios vehículos, es requisito reciclar el aceite usado y reduce esta amenaza de contaminación. Cuando lleva el aceite usado a un centro certificado de reciclaje, está protegiendo el ambiente y conservando un recurso valioso. Es una combinación ganadora. En Paramount, puede dejar su aceite de motor y filtros usados en dos Centros de Recolección Certificados convenientes. (Es buena idea llamar antes de llevar el aceite y los filtros.) You can also have your used oil and filters picked up from your home by calling 1-800-HHWPKUP. This service is free. Here are some tips for recycling used motor oil: • Contaminated Oil Is Not Accepted. • Carry oil in clean, non-breakable, non-metal containers. • Do not mix oil with bleach, paint, solvents or automotive fluids. • Maximum container size is 5 gallons. • Maximum drop-off is 20 gallons per day. Free Shuttle Connects City to Green Line The City of Paramount offers a free shuttle that allows residents to reach the Green Line train station on Lakewood Blvd. at the 105 Freeway without driving their own car. This shuttle can be accessed at the Easy Rider transit stop located at WalMart on Lakewood Blvd. Shuttle hours are Monday to Saturday from 7 am to 9 am, 11 am to 1 pm, and 4 pm to 6 pm. Shuttle leaves every 10-15 minutes during these hours. For more information, please call (562) 220-2121.
