Hopalong to the Annual Easter Faire

It’s time again for the famous Easter Bunny to make an appearance in Paramount at the City’s annual Easter Faire, which will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 10 am to 1pm in Paramount Park.

Come on out to enjoy an egg hunt in the park as well as game booths, a moon bounce, a petting zoo and more. The festivities are free, but vendors will be offering food for sale.

Paramount Park is located at 14400 Paramount Blvd. Please call (562) 220-2121 for more information.

Recycle Your “E-Waste” for Free

CalMet Services, Paramount’s waste hauler, provides free curbside pick-up service for all unwanted electronic waste (computers, televisions, microwaves, cell phones, telephones, stereos, typewriters, fax machines, and PDAs) that by law must be recycled. This service is available to homes, apartments and mobile home parks. Simply contact CalMet at (562) 634-5420 to schedule a pick-up at your residence.

Be sure to call at least one business day prior to your regular trash day to schedule a pick-up. Then, on trash day, place the e-waste at your curbside to be hauled away.

Free Large-Item Pickup

It is illegal to dump anything in alleys, streets, sidewalks or any public right-of-way. Property owners might even be liable for a fine for such dumped items.

If you have oversized things like furniture or appliances that won’t fit in a regular trash container, Cal-Met will pick them up for free from residential customers. Call (562) 634-5420 the day before your normal trash pick-up and tell them you have bulky items to be collected. Then simply place them out with your trash. Keep in mind that things like lumber, concrete, auto parts, and toxins such as paint and used motor oil cannot be removed in this way.

Recycle Used Motor Oil

If you change the motor oil in your vehicle, you cannot dispose of it in the trash or down the drain. It must be recycled. But there are two easy ways to get rid of the stuff in Paramount.

You can take the used oil and used filters to Kragen Auto Parts at 15725 Downey Ave., phone (562) 2721433. (It is recommended that you call before taking the oil in.) Or you can arrange for them to be picked up at home by calling Curbside, Inc. at 1-800-HHW-PKUP.
