SEPTEMBER 2020

BE COUNTED & FUND OUR PROGRAMS
The Deadline is September 30
Paramount's population, as determined by the U.S. Census, has resulted in funding for the following:
• School meals
• Citywide graffiti removal
• Rent/mortgage/small business relief grants
• Repairing our public pool
• Repairing sidewalks
• Paramount Park futsal courts
• Beautiful traffic medians
• Residential Remodel Program
• A safe, attractive environment
By completing the Census, the City gets more funding.
It only has 12 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. Your information is private and secure, and cannot be shared.
The Paramount City Council doesn’t think so. It has approved tough new penalties to combat a sharp increase in dangerous street racing, donuts, and intersection takeovers, with the ultimate punishment being the confiscation of the offender’s car.
Various forms of reckless driving are widespread throughout the region. Due to Paramount’s close access to many freeways, the City has been plagued by these lawbreakers who care nothing about our neighborhoods or putting people in mortal danger.
Street racers and the spectators urging them on who are apprehended in
for full reimbursement.
For some, they can lose their cars for good.
Those watching and encouraging the reckless driver can be charged with a misdemeanor and/or be fined too.
Residents are encouraged to call (562) 623-3500 when they see an intersection takeover starting to form.

Unity in the Community is a series of public meetings intended to open a dialogue on racism, police relations, social injustices, community involvement, and youth engagement in Paramount. Led by a panel of residents, the next discussion will be held remotely via live YouTube broadcast on Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m.
The topic will be “A First Conversation on Police Relations: Building Trust and Relationships in Paramount.”
You can submit questions for discussion to ParamountUnity@gmail.com with the subject line Question for Discussion. These will be answered by the panel. The deadline to submit is Friday, September 25.
There will also be an opportunity for live remote public comment (via telephone) to share your input and concerns with the panel on a first come, first served basis. If interested, please email ParamountUnity@gmail.com with the subject line Request for Live Public Comment.
To address as many issues as possible, the live public comment period will be limited to 15 minutes. Each person will have 90 seconds to share their questions and comments. Requests for live public comment that are not heard on October 3 may be addressed at a following Unity Discussion.
In case you missed the first meeting, “A General Discussion on Racism,” it can be viewed at paramountcity.com/unity.
Have you heard of the “digital divide?” This describes a lack of technology infrastructure in some communities. In Paramount, for instance, there are areas where access to high-speed internet is limited due to under-developed infrastructure by utility companies. This makes it harder for families to take part in important online activities, like distance learning for students.
And as COVID-19 has created a critical demand for internet access in many aspects of life, the “digital divide” becomes a major equity issue for people overall.
But fortunately, resources are out there. Take a look at the following to get connected. Special thanks to our State Senator Lena Gonzalez for creating this list.
Human I-T: Helps low-income families find low-cost internet from $10-$25 per month with no contract, including options with a free Chromebook or low-cost hot-spots.
