Tree City USAFourth Straight Year!

The City has been named a Tree City USA for the fourth year in a row by the Arbor Day Foundation.

Paramount has over 8,000 trees in public spaces, about 1,800 trees per square mile, and thousands more on private property. The City continues to plant new trees whenever possible, having done so at a public event in March in two parks. At the recent Eco-Friendly Fair, 150 fruit trees were given away to residents.

Urban tree plantings help reduce energy consumption by up to 25%, which lowers general energy costs and aids with the overall cooling of the city. In addition, members of the community benefit from properly placed trees as they increase property values from 7-20%. Trees also positively affect the local ecosystem by helping to clean water and create animal habitats to encourage biodiversity.

Paramount loves our trees! Being named a Tree City USA is a great honor, and the City thanks the Arbor Day Foundation for the recognition.

Park Patrols for the Summer

The City will be hiring Superior Security to provide park patrols beginning this month and going through the summer.

The company will assist the Community Services Department with supervising permitted uses in parks, opening and closing athletic facilities, assisting youth sports leagues, and closing park restrooms at 8:00 p.m.

Superior Security has performed similar services for the Paramount Unified School District for 20 years.

Uniforms and vehicles will be clearly marked to indicate the company’s partnership with the City in these efforts to support the community’s use of our public parks.
